Romania as a country has of recent years really started to open up as an area of leisurely pursuits. Away from the capital, Romania maintains a multitude of fabulous sights that are essential viewing. Take the Brasov district, and, more specifically, medieval Sighisoara and its ornate 11 towers. Indeed, the city is surrounded by an encapsulating wall, housing a pretty town comprising of quaint houses, an ancient church and interweaving uneven streets which bring character to the region.
Most notoriously, legend has it that Sighisoara is the birthplace of the legendary Vlad the Impaler, or Dracula as he is known in folklore. In the heart of Transylvania, the land related to the Dracula fable, lies Cluj Napoca, a showpiece for the natural beauty of Romania, orchestrated through it's plethora of gaudy botanical gardens presenting all types of flora and fauna, from local to foreign, small to tall – there's plenty to catch the eye here.
Alternatively, there is the colder climate of the ski resort of Sinaia to contend with, 3,300 feet above sea level, should you wish to venture away from the low – lying cities and villages below. Catch a glimpse of the magnificent Sinaia Monastery and Peles Castle, before relaxing with a coffee and pastry in one of the areas many traditional outdoor cafes.
