Naturally there are lots of bars, pubs and discos though the main attraction has to be the spectacular five-mile stretch of beach that fronts the resort. Families with young children are attracted by the warm shallow waters of the magnificent Alcudia Bay and it’s particularly popular with British, German and Scandinavian families. All sorts of watersports can be arranged from scuba diving to banana rides. There are tennis and squash courts in the resort and nearby holiday attractions include a water park, a go-kart track and horse riding. To the relief of many locals, Alcudia is not the place for party animals; the south of the island is the place to head for those looking for some serious clubbing.

If you’re keen to explore on holiday in Alcudia, take a boat trip to the stunning Formentor promontory where passengers can snorkel or simply take in the stunning views. The nearby towns of Pollensa and Alcudia (old town) and the mountain village of Lluc are also worth getting to know, while those looking to get away from it all can take a trip to the mountainous western side of the island.
Alcudia History
The original old town of Alcudia (dating back to around 1300) is actually 2 miles inland and is well worth a visit. Few people realise it was the Phoenicians and Greeks who first settled here, closely by the Romans, who made Alcudia the capital of the island. There is an excellent walking tour of the town that highlights its abundant history.

Should you tire of Alcudia’s many attractions on holiday try a trip to Palma a city as historic and as beautiful as anywhere in the Mediterranean. From its imposing medieval cathedral, it’s fine castle and elegant harbour; this is an easy place to fall in love with. There are great shops, smart bars, fine restaurants and plenty going on to keep you amused on holiday. When you’ve explored the sites and perused the shops, try an evening stroll along the Paseo Maritimo. Here, along this elegant boulevard, you can watch the ships coming and going and, perhaps, settle on a seafood restaurant for dinner? If you’re a night owl you’ll find plenty of places open until late - the locals tend not to go out until later in the evening - as well as some very fine clubs where it’s possible to dance into the small hours, or indulge in a spot of people-watching while you soak up the atmosphere. Indeed, Majorca is a firm holiday favourite with the Spanish royal family and no lesser starts than Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas.
