Caribbean Cruises – Florida Departures
Setting sail from Tampa Fort, Florida, you start your colourful Caribbean cruise voyage of the Caribbean aboard your home between land excursions, the modern and utterly extravagant Carnival Miracle.
11 Storeys high and enlivened by an equally tall atrium topped with a ruby – red ceiling, this luxurious Caribbean cruise ship is the height of cutting edge accommodation and entertainment at sea, bringing cruising into the 21 st century.
Caribbean Cruises – Grand Cayman & George Town
Once away, you will be whisked to the Grand Cayman, your first point of discovery, and an apt one – the legendary pirate Blackbeard and his crew once trod these very shores. Now, however, is the time for your adventures; why not go ashore along the seven - mile beach and enjoy the smooth white sands, sunbathe a little, then take to the azure waters, so crystal clear that you are likely to capture a glimpse of local stingrays and the indigenous turtles. Indeed, these turtles are a welcome sight; up until recently, their numbers were dwindling, but the famous Cayman Turtle Farm has helped breed them back to healthy numbers. A visit here on your Caribbean cruise allows you to see many of the 16,000 plus turtles that currently reside, and is an educational and enjoyable experience.
Returning to the coast, look out for the miles of brain reef and multi – coloured fish that inhabit it, making it a heavenly place for divers and snorkelling. However, if you would rather be in Hell, then a visit to the town of the same name is in order for you. Situated in George Town, Hell is so called because of the blackened and jagged rocks that run along its shore.
Caribbean Cruises – Grand Cayman Shopping
However, shoppers will be in paradise on, as Hell and George Town are home to many specialist shopping stores, situated on West Bay Road. Look out for the Seven – Mile Shops Centre, Galleria Plaza and Queen's Court Mall, all of which sell a variety of goods. For a quainter affair, the Farmers Market on Thomas Russell Way and Frankie's Fresh Fruits and Juices in Regency Court on West Bay Road both sell a veritable assortment of local jams, hot sauces, baked goods and fruits and vegetables. Be sure to stock up on your Caribbean cruise, as the shopping is duty free here, and makes for some delicious meals as you head towards Mexico and Costa Maya, your next port of call.
Caribbean Cruises – Costa Maya
If you enjoyed bathing, diving and/or snorkelling, or if you missed out, don't worry, as there is plenty of opportunities to partake in these activities in the Costa Maya. Take to the sea and explore the Great Mayan Reef, venture guided into the green, vivacious and deep jungles, or look for ancient Mayan ruins hidden away in the nirvana of the semi – tropical rainforest of the Yucatan Peninsula. Indeed this is a rewarding experience, as the area is accessible only by foot or by narrow roads.
Caribbean Cruises – Cozumel, Mexico
Onwards, then, to Cozumel, the largest Island in the Mayan Caribbean. Home to sparkling white sandy beaches and clean shores, whose coast is a huge underwater marine park as such; species of fish and reef are protected and constantly monitored, preserving the natural beauty of the area and maintaining it as one of the premier snorkelling and SCUBA diving areas in the world. On dry land, Chankanaab National Park offers an array of sights, including an Archaeological Park complete with jungle trail, a vivid Botanical Garden, and a Dolphinarium featuring Atlantic Bottle – nosed dolphins, all enchanting and mind expanding experiences.
Caribbean Cruises – Belize & Belize City
After so much wonderment, you may think there can't possibly be more to come. Well hold on; before our caribbean cruise returns to Tampa, we visit our final destination, Belize City, home to some unique architecture and wildlife.
Take in St. John's Cathedral, built in 1812 form bricks brought in from all over Europe, St. John's was the first Anglican Cathedral built in Central America, and it's architecture subsequently successfully influenced that of surrounding towns. Indeed, stroll into town to see one of the main draws to this curious part of the world – the Community Baboon Sanctuary, home to the Black Howler Monkey, indigenous to the area. Take the opportunity to view these graceful and rare creatures, as well as others, such as the unusual Baird's Tapir, magnificent Jaguarundi and the Monelet's Crocodile, which, like others, are kept in the park to ensure preservation.
Before boarding the Carnival, make sure you squeeze in a look at the mystical ancient Mayan temples and structures which, unlike others in Mexico, allow visitors to touch and explore within their walls.
Once back aboard, you will have ample time to reminisce about your discoveries, as the staff aboard the Carnival and it's many amenities such as cafes, shops, restaurants and even a casino entertain you all the way back to Tampa, Florida.
