Salzburg Christmas Market

Austria

Salzburg during Christmas is an unforgettable experience. The Christkindelmärkte (Christmas markets) are in full swing. The smell of punch and toasted almonds, hot roasted chestnuts and freshly baked apples envelopes our noses; the vendors' gingerbread hearts, Nativity figures, Christmas tree ornaments, toys and warm pullovers are irresistible. Adventsingen and other concerts fill the always busy musical calendar, and there's a good chance that snow will decorate the cupolas and copper roofs of the Altstadt. Best of all, the city is far less crowded than it is during the summer tourist season, and the streets are filled with Salzburgerland natives going about their business in traditional Trachten clothing and Loden coats.
