Holiday Itinerary
DAY 1: UK - Barcelona.
Fly to Barcelona and make your own way to your hotel. Alternatively, a transfer is pre-bookable at a supplement.
DAY 2-4: At Leisure
Dynamic and exiting, Barcelona re-invented itself following the 1992 Olympic Games. Today it is a city bursting with life, offering awe-inspiring architecture, rich Gothic history, colourful fiestas and delicious cuisine, set against mountain and coastal scenery and blessed with 11 months of sun a year.
The first stop on most visitor's list is the spectacular La Sagrada Familia Cathedral. The work of Barcelona's most famous son; Antoni Gaudi, the ambitious project was intended to be a combination of Gothic and modern architecture and is truly breathtaking.
Other highlights of this astonishing city include the Picasso Museum, a homage to the artists life, where many of his earlier works are displayed. Park Guell, another of Gaudi's works, is a beautiful park, full of fabulous ceramic designs. Set atop a hill the park offers panoramic views of the city and it is an ideal way to escape the hustle and bustle of Barcelona. And take time to visit Gaudi's La Pedrera, an apartment complex of such original design it has to be seen to be believed.
Some areas of the city that should be explored are the Barri Gotic, the centre of Barcelona's old town which is a maze of winding streets home to some of the cities most enchanting gothic architecture. Montjuic, to the south west reflects modern Barcelona and contains a host of visitor attractions including the sites of the 1992 Olympics. Finally Las Ramblas is a pedestrian area full of street entertainers and quaint stores and market stalls.
Barcelona becomes even more animated after dark with a wealth of nightlife that can cater for all tastes. Enjoy the speciality seafood in one of many restaurants, immerse youself in the atmosphere of a lively and colourful fiesta or simply take a stroll and try to absorb all that is going on around you. DAY 5: Barcelona - UK
Make your own way back to Barcelona airport for your flight to the UK. Alternatively, a transfer is available at a supplement and should be pre-booked prior to departure. (B)
