Casual and comfortable. During the day while on board or going ashore, we suggest casual clothing or sportswear and comfortable shoes. As it may be cooler in the evenings and when the ship is at sea, you should bring a sweater or jacket. There is not a strict dress code for the evening but passengers usually follow the suggestion detailed in the daily programme: casual; informal (jacket for men); formal or gala (cocktail dresses for ladies and dinner jacket or dark suit for men).
There will be 1 or more formal/gala evenings depending on the itinerary and the length of the cruise. On most cruises there are theme nights and a Roman evening so you may wish to pack appropriate items.
Please note that swimsuits are not permitted in the main restaurant or lounges and shoes are required at all times. Long shorts are allowed in the main restaurant only during morning and afternoon hours and not in the evening.
According to international custom, tipping is accepted as a way of recognizing good service. For your convenience we have introduced an automatic tipping system and an amount of 6 Euro or US $8 per person per day will be added to your account. If for any reason you wish to change the amount you can contact the information office on board. For your convenience a service charge of 15% is added to all bar and wine orders.
Costa Cruises wants to meet the needs of everyone who wants to experience a cruise but who may have special needs, mobility problems, or visual impairment. You must inform our Special Needs Department about your requirements at the time of booking. We recommend that guests with special needs travel with a companion. A limited number of cabins are available which offer facilities for guests with disabilities. Details of disability must be advised at the time of booking. Passengers confined to wheelchairs must have their own standard size collapsible wheelchair and must be accompanied by a travelling companion who is able to assist them. Measurements of wheelchairs must be given to us at the time of booking. Facilities in some ports may preclude guests in wheelchairs from going ashore, particularly when the ship is at anchor and tenders are used.
Diet
Costa will make every attempt to satisfy special dietary needs. We ask that you notify us in writing at least six weeks prior to sailing.
Onboard Medical Care
A qualified doctor and nurse are available on the Costa Magica and they are on call 24 hours a day while the ship is at sea. Standard office hours will be posted in the ship’s daily programme. The ship is equipped with an up to date infirmary offering limited medical services. Medication to relieve any symptoms of seasickness is also available at the infirmary. Payment for treatment for medication should be made on board direct to the medical personnel.
Smoking is allowed in designated areas in most public rooms onboard. However, smoking is prohibited in the main restaurants and in show lounges. Some of Costa's newer ships have at least one lounge that is entirely non-smoking.
Payment On Board And Costa Card
The foreign exchange facility on board is limited so we recommend
that you carry enough local currency for each port of call visited
or carry small denomination Travellers Cheques to cash while ashore.
There are no automatic cash machines on board. We regret that we do
not provide credit card cash advances and we cannot cash personal cheques.
Travellers Cheques can be cashed at the Information Office/Reception.
The unit of currency on board is the Euro. We suggest passengers take
small amounts of local currencies or travellers cheques in small denominations.
On board credit and credit cards
For your convenience, the Cost Magica operates a cashless system
on board. At embarkation you will be issued a personal Cruise Card
which lets you charge everything to your on board account, including
gift shop purchases, wine and bar bills, spa and beauty shop services,
dry cleaning and laundry, telephone calls and shore excursions.
At the end of your cruise, you will receive a statement showing
all your ship board charges. You may settle your account with cash
(Sterling, Euros or US dollars), travellers cheques or a credit
card. If you register your credit card at the beginning of the
cruise, you will avoid the queue to settle accounts at the end
of the cruise. Personal cheques and Eurocheques are not accepted
on board.
Purchases on board
Passengers may benefit from tax free prices on a wide selection of goods. The attractive shopping galleries feature an assortment of tasteful merchandise including imported fragrances, cosmetics, resort wear, jewellery, watches, souvenirs, photography equipment and accessories. The shops are open daily while the ship is at sea. Duty free alcohol and foreign made cigarettes at duty free prices, are also available. For the safety and comfort of all guests, purchases of alcohol will be kept in store and delivered to your cabin at the end of the cruise.
