Crete MapRethymnon Perfect For Relaxing

Centred around a quaint harbour with a selection of open air restaurants and tavernas, Rethymnon is not only full of charm, it's also a perfect base for a relaxing holiday. There's an excellent golden beach that starts almost in the centre of town and continues round the bay before it disappears into the heat haze. In the old town you'll find a fine Venetian fortress all manner of shops and more than a smattering of excellent bars, cafes and restaurants. If you're here in July you can enjoy the wine festival (there's more to Greek wine than Retsina!) but whenever you come you'll find this is a friendly place that's within striking distance of cultural ‘must dos' like Knossos.

Aghios Nikolaos – Fun With A Capital F

Universally known as Ag. Nik this charming resort is situated around a beautiful harbour that will doubtlessly feature in many a postcard home. Ag. Nik was originally built by the Venetians whose influence on Crete was pronounced, though these days you'll find the area has been given over to the pursuit of pleasure rather than commerce and conquest. By day you'll find excellent sandy beaches within easy reach of the resort centre, whilst by night bars, restaurants and cafes light up the whole harbour area. This is a lively resorts that majors on fun.
