Our favourite Portugal resorts include Albufeira and Vilamoura in the Algarve. Albufeira started life as a fishing village in Roman times; today it’s one of the major resorts in Portugal, but its narrow cobbled streets retain a beguiling historic atmosphere, and picturesque fishing boats still moor at the famous Fisherman’s Beach in the evening.
Cosmopolitan Vilamoura’s rugged coast is filled with wildflowers, and you can enjoy regional delicacies including fish stew, figs and brandy. There are five amazing golf courses here, and the sailing is superb.
