Cruise Turkey's Turquoise Coast

Cleopatra's Island, Turkey Gulet Cruise

Compact coastal gulets allow access to remote bays and archaeological sites that can only be reached by water, so if the idea of bathing on deserted beaches, swimming in crystal waters and enjoying the culture and undisturbed character of this part of the world appeals, then a gulet cruise could be for you.

Your Itinerary

DAY 1: UK - Dalaman - Marmaris.

Fly to Dalaman and transfer to Marmaris to join your gulet cruise ship. (D)

DAY 2: Ekincik Gulf.

After breakfast on board, your gulet cruises to the picturesque Gulf of Ekincik. Framed by pine-laden hills and a pebble beach, this delightful bay is the perfect first stop for your holiday. Once here, why not join the optional excursion to Dalyan? Hop onto a traditional ‘piyade’ boat and cruise to Turtle Beach, a five-kilometre stretch of sands that is a breeding ground for loggerhead turtles and flanked by the delta of the River Dalyan. After time to swim in the sea, sail upstream, admiring the natural beauty of the river, before gliding past the ancient Lycian tombs of Caunos, which are carved into steep cliffs above the riverbanks. Next, grab the opportunity to wallow in the famous mud baths of Dalyan before continuing to Dalyan village, with its charming old quarter packed with shops, restaurants and cafés. Tonight, moor in Ekincik Bay. (B, L, D)

DAY 3: Olu Deniz – Gemiler Island.

Early this morning, sail around the capes of Disibilmez and Kurtoglu en-route to what many regard as the scenic jewel of Turquoise Coast - Olu Deniz - a breathtakingly beautiful lagoon nestled beneath steep mountainsides. Swim in the sparkling waters and enjoy lunch on board before your gulet sets off again towards Gemiler Island. This tiny islet is sprinkled with ruined monastic buildings, Byzantine dwellings and churches – one believed to have been the original burial place of St. Nicholas, the inspiration behind Father Christmas. (B, L, D)

DAY 4: Turunc Pinari - Fethiye.

After breakfast, your gulet cruises to the enchanting bay of Turunc Pinari. Here, you may want to swim in the azure waters or sunbathe on deck before tucking into lunch on board. This afternoon, your captain sets a course for Fethiye. With roots stretching back over three thousand years, this bustling port town was once known as Telmessos and the most important city on Lycia's western border with Caria. Today, if offers up countless attractions, from a cobbled old district to a spectacular Roman amphitheatre, Lycian rock tombs and a crumbled mountain fort. After dinner on board, take time out to explore the town’s many shops, bars and lively marina. (B, L, D)

DAY 5: Göcek Gulf (Yassica Islands - Tersane Bay - Bedri Rahmi Bay).

Keep your camera ready as you glide into the world famous Göcek Gulf, past picture-perfect islands before stopping at Yassica Island. After lunch amongst this beautiful chain of islands, cruise to Tersane Bay, a picturesque island with a natural harbour used as a dockyard in Byzantine and Ottoman times. Later cruise to Bedri Rahmi Bay, named after the famous Turkish artist Bedri Rahmi, for dinner. (B, L, D)

DAY 6: Göcek Gulf (Manastir - Aga Limani).

After breakfast on board, there's time to relax before sailing to Manastir Bay. Known as the Bay of Cleopatra, this forest-clad inlet is believed to have been visited by the Egyptian queen and boasts the underwater ruins of a Roman bathhouse. Enjoy lunch on board and swim or snorkel in the crystal waters around the bath. Grab the opportunity for a swim in the refreshing waters here before sailing to stunning Aga Limani Bay, a horseshoe-shaped cove enclosed by rocky slopes and pine forests. Enjoy dinner on board here tonight. (B, L, D)

DAY 7: Kumlubük - Cennet Island - Marmaris.

Today begins with an early morning cruise to Kumlubük Bay, where the crew will serve you breakfast on board. After that, there’s time to swim in the pristine waters off Cennet Island before your gulet cruises back to Marmaris. This evening brings a chance to dive into this vibrant resort, sampling the bars and cafés along the vibrant waterfront or snapping up souvenirs at the shops before spending your last night on board. (B, L, D)

DAY 8: Marmaris - Dalaman - UK.

After breakfast, disembark and transfer to Dalaman airport for your flight back to the UK, or extend your holiday with a relaxing week’s stay in Dalyan. (B)

Note: Your coastal gulet will be allocated on arrival.

Turkey Coastal Gulets

Traditional Turkish Gulets are simple wooden vessels, usually about 20 metres in length and featuring a main mast. Most feature a compact interior lounge area with a fully-equipped galley and a sundeck area for bathing on board. There will usually be access to watersports equipment such as snorkels or dinghies. Gulets can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests, sleeping in twin cabins with private facilities.

Note: Space can be limited so only bring the bare necessities and pack a bag rather than a case, as this will be easier to stow in the cabin. You'll need a pair of shoes or trainers when you go ashore, a jumper or light jacket for cooler evenings at sea, towels, sunglasses and plenty of suncream or sunblock. There is no air conditioning and no electricty sockets on board.

Turkish port taxes

Please note that €20 per person port fees are payable on arrival to the ship. This fee is paid directly to the ship's operator.

Visa Requirements

A visa is required for entry into Turkey. This can be purchased on arrival in Dalaman for £10.
