Discover Malta & Gozo
Take time to enjoy the historic, honey-coloured capitals, quaint harbours and natural wonders of sun-drenched Malta and Gozo - on a tour where you set the pace.
Your Itinerary
DAY 1: Luqa - Sliema.
Fly to Luqa where you will be met by our representative and transferred to The Victoria hotel in Sliema for three nights. (D)
DAY 2 to 3: Malta at leisure.
Enjoy two full days at leisure - a great opportunity to explore this beautiful island at your own pace. With a past spanning 7,000 years, Malta offers up rugged countryside, megalithic monuments and medieval villages, all fringed by a coastline of cliffs and turquoise sea caves. Choose from our range of optional excursions to attractions like the old, walled capital of Mdina, known as the 'Silent City' and home to only 300 or so residents. Or perhaps delve into the island's crowning glory, its honey-stoned capital, Valletta. Just a ferry ride across Marsamxett harbour from Sliema, this tiny city was built and fortified by the Knights of St John in the 16th century and offers up a wonderful maze of pretty squares, stepped stone streets and golden palaces and monuments, all wrapped in formidable ramparts. See St John's Co-Cathedral, home to 400 tombs of the knights and Caravaggio's masterpiece, 'The Beheading of St John', admire the Grand Master's Palace and stroll in the Upper Barrakka Gardens, enjoying panoramic views over the Grand Harbour. And perhaps take a harbour cruise, sailing around this spectacular natural bay to admire the city's forts, bastions and walls from the water. (B, D)
DAY 4: Sliema - Gozo.
Today, enjoy a 30-minute ferry ride from Cirkewwa to the unspoilt island of Gozo. Lying northwest of Malta, this tiny, tranquil place is sprinkled with green, rolling hills, ancient ruins, secluded beaches and timeless fishing villages. Once here, transfer to Calypso Hotel, in Marsalforn, for a three-night stay. Sandwiched between rocky hills on Gozo's north coast and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea, this charming harbour village has a pretty waterfront and small pebble beach lined with cafés, shops and restaurants. (B, D)
DAY 5 to 6: Gozo at leisure.
Enjoy two free days to explore Gozo at leisure. Your included hop on hop off bus ticket (valid for one day) is a great way to really make the most of all the sights the island has to offer. Perhaps visit the prehistoric stone temples of Ggantija, reputed to be the world's oldest freestanding buildings, and Calypso's Cave, where the nymph Calypso is said to have imprisoned Ulysses for seven years. Or maybe stroll around the island's lovely capital, Victoria. This medieval town is a delight to walk around with its sun-burnished squares, Georgian-style buildings, domed churches and lavishly decorated 17th century cathedral. Follow a coastal walking trail for dramatic views of Gozo's rugged cliffs or take a boat trip to Dwejra, where a gigantic rock arch known as the Azure Window juts out to sea and a cliff tunnel opens to the Inland Sea - a surreally beautiful turquoise lagoon. Alternatively, join one of our optional excursions to experience and learn more about this fascinating, ancient island. (B, D)
DAY 7: Marsalforn - Sliema.
Today, drive to the port for your ferry ride back to Malta. On arrival in Cirkewwa, transfer to your hotel in Sliema for one night. (B, D)
DAY 8: Sliema - Luqa - UK.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK. (B)
