DAY 1: Southampton, UK.
Make your own way to Southampton to join your cruise ship, MSC Opera. Your ship will depart at 4pm. (D)
DAY 2: Ijmuiden (for Amsterdam).
The Dutch capital is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city with plenty of sights to enjoy. Famed for its charming, tree-shaded canals spanned by 1,000 bridges and lined by handsome gabled merchant houses, it also boasts numerous world-class galleries and museums, including the magnificent Rijksmuseum filled with Dutch masterpieces, and the Van Gogh Museum. Today, why not join an optional canal cruise along the city's 'grachten', passing under picturesque arched bridges and admiring landmarks such as Anne Frank's House and the famous Skinny Bridge? DAY 3 to 4: At sea.

DAY 5: Tallinn.
Estonia's capital is a fascinating city with a well-preserved medieval Old Town and a melée of fortifications, churches and winding cobbled streets. A magnet for visitors is Toompea, a hill at the heart of the city, home to many fine buildings, including the 19th century Russian Orthodox Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Toompea Castle and the Toomkirik, a Lutheran cathedral built in 1233. The lively Town Hall Square, lined with open-air cafés and bars, is a great place to relax and enjoy a drink. (B, L, D)
DAY 6 to 7: St Petersburg.
Known as the 'Venice of the North' and Russia's most European city, St Petersburg was created by Peter the Great in 1703 as Russia's 'Window on the West', and was built with 18th and 19th-century European pomp and orderliness, mainly by European architects. The result is a city which remains one of the world's most beautiful and enchanting, with a wealth of fine buildings, including the famous Winter Palace, housing the magnificent Hermitage Museum, which easily rivals such well respected establishments as the Louvre, the Prado and the British Museum. DAY 8: At sea.

DAY 9: Copenhagen.
Once home to Hans Christian Andersen, Denmark's lovely capital enchants everyone who visits. Today, experience its best-known landmarks, from the fun-packed Tivoli Gardens to bustling markets, royal palaces and picture-postcard Nyhavn, where candy-coloured houses, bars and restaurants line the harbour front, on an optional city sightseeing tour. There's also a chance to see the 'Little Mermaid' statue honouring Andersen's fabled tales. (B, L, D)

Arrive in Southampton this morning and disembark after breakfast. (B)

Tipping
