Views over Reykjavik

Discover Iceland's cosmopolitan capital and spectacular natural sights on this leisurely four-night break with included visits to the Blue Lagoon and the Golden Circle marvels of Gullfoss, Geysir and Thingvellir.

Your Itinerary

DAY 1: UK - Blue Lagoon - Reykjavik.

Fly to Keflavik where you will be met by our representative. En route to your hotel, enjoy an included visit to The Blue Lagoon, a unique thermal spa where guests can relax in the warm, geothermal waters surrounded by remarkable lava fields and black sandy beaches. The seawater lagoon is fed by wells up to 2000 metres deep and reaches temperatures up to 110 degrees fahrenheit. The waters contain mineral salts which aid relaxation and relieve stress, whilst the white silica mud cleanses, tones and revitalises. Later, continue to your Reykjavik hotel for four nights. Note: It is advisable to pack a swimsuit in hand luggage or within easy access of main luggage for use on arrival at the Blue Lagoon. Towels are included in the admission.

DAY 2: Golden Circle Tour. Gulfoss - Geysir - Thingvellir.

Today enjoy a full day tour of the 'Golden Circle', three of Iceland's most impressive sights, which portray the power and diversity of the country's natural environment. Visit the spectacular Gullfoss, also known as the 'Golden Waterfall', a breathtaking cascade that plummets a mighty stream of water 32 metres into a canyon 70 metres deep and 2.5 kilometres wide. Also witness the intriguing steam plumes of Geysir. The namesake for all other hot springs, Geysir was once capable of spurting water 80 metres into the air. Set in a geothermal park peppered with bubbling mud pools, swirling steam vents and hot, meandering streams, Geysir is now a dormant sapphire-blue pool but visitors can still see impressive steam pillar eruptions from nearby Strokkur which vents every 5-10 minutes. Finally admire the spectacular scenery of Thingvellir National Park, set on the rift valley created by the shifting continental plates of Europe and North America. The park is also home to the oldest existing Parliament site in the world, where chieftains first met in 930AD to discuss the country's rule, and an area still held in high esteem for many Icelanders who gather here whenever a major event is celebrated. DAY 3: Reykjavik.

The world's northernmost capital, Reykjavik, is set on a peninsula surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and overlooked by the majestic Mount Esja. With crisp clean air and clear blue skies, Reykjavik is a city of contrasts, with traditional painted houses and the charming character of a provincial town combined with a modern, vibrant metropolis. The city's name derives from its Viking founders and means 'smoky bay' after the steam rising from the city's many hot springs. Make the most of this distinctive capital on an optional city sightseeing tour, taking in highlights such as the harbour, Parliament, City Hall and the unique ‘Pearl’ hot water tanks, popular with tourists for their revolving restaurant and panoramic walkway offering 360-degree city views. Or perhaps join an optional boat trip across the Bay of Faxafloi to try and spot some of the local marine life such as white beaked dolphins, harbour porpoises and even whales. During the winter months an optional Northern Lights excursion ventures to where the fantastic dancing colours can most frequently be seen in the Arctic sky. (B)

DAY 4: Reykjavik.

Enjoy another full day at leisure to explore the charms of this fabulous city. Alternatively, why not join the optional day trip to the South Shore? See rural Iceland in its finest form on visits to natural wonders such as Seljalandsfoss and Skógarfoss waterfalls, the Reynisdrangar rock formations, the folk museum in Skógar and the delightful village of Vík. (B)

DAY 5: Reykjavik - UK.

Transfer to Keflavik for your return flight to the UK. (B)
