Jewels of France

Gordan McGregor 11/08/2015

Wonderful holiday, we keep thinking back and talking about it. The tour director was excellent, Clara Crawford, and she must be mentioned first. Organisation, genuine care, knowledgeable, interesting and really on the ball. We’ve had 3 other Archers tour directors over the years in USA and Canada, two were very good and one OK, but Clara sets the standard. Thank you Clara.

The tour destinations were exceptionally good. We are experienced travellers in France but it was a joy to have someone else taking the strain, doing the homework, organising the bags and ensuring all was well. The information we received from our tour director and local guides made the visits much more rewarding than a casual personal visit. Excellent!

Highlights for us were Monet’s garden, Versailles and of course Paris, but everywhere was interesting and the food and meals out were very good. We particularly liked the meal in Amboise at the small restaurant, and after the meal we were taken by our driver into Amboise to watch the fireworks on the banks of the Loire for the 14th July celebrations. A big bonus. The coach and the driver (Tom from Calais) were excellent and wi-fi on the coach was very useful.

No doubt you will be interested in customer appraisal of the hotels. The Paris hotels, Kyriad Bercy Village and Timhotel Berthier Clichy, were very good with good breakfasts. The rooms were small, as you would expect in any capital city, but very comfortable.

Hotel Ibis Deauville was very good with very good breakfast and evening meal.

Novohotel Amboise was excellent, with excellent breakfasts and dinner, and the swimming pool a welcome bonus.

At Mont St. Michel the Hotel Vert had the great advantage of position but the hotel itself is a little tired, and the lack of air conditioning was problematical in that flies and midges entered the room if the windows were opened. However its position made up for this and we were able to hop on the shuttle outside the hotel and revisit the Mont St. Michel again in the evening, and get off at the door again coming back.

This was an excellent holiday break. It was enjoyable, interesting, and we met some lovely people.
