Your Itinerary
DAY 1: UK - Milan - Lake Maggiore.
Fly to Milan where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your chosen hotel on Lake Maggiore. Spend the rest of your day getting to know your resort and hotel. (D)
DAY 2 to 7: Lake Maggiore.
Spend a week relaxing in Lake Maggiore. A visit to the Borromean Islands, Isola Bella and Isola Pesciatori are included during your stay and will usually take place on day three of your holiday. During your time in Lake Maggiore there are plenty of places to visit and things to explore, so you can choose to spend the week out and about exploring or just soaking up the relaxing atmosphere of your resort, Baveno. Dating back to Roman Times, Baveno still has remnants of its past in the honey coloured town today, from tombstones to the ancient church. The town centre has plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars to choose from, and you can enjoy a walk along the lakeside promenade. It is so easy to explore the lake itself by ferry or boat from Baveno. Milan nearby, is definitely worth a visit as it's a fascinating and hugely popular city, famous for fashion and football alike! Rebuilt painstakingly after the war, Milan's fashion centre, with its 'galleria' arcade and elegant shops is hard to beat, but it also offers a fine cathedral, museum and opera house to boot. If you're feeling more adventurous, head to the nearby lake-side town of Stresa with its cable car up Monte Mottarone or Verbania for a wider choice of restaurants and shops, by the frequent boat service. Alternatively, why not really push the boat out and visit Zermatt nestled at the foot of the Matterhorn in Switzerland? (B, D)
DAY 8: Lake Maggiore - Milan - UK.
Transfer to Milan airport for your flight to the UK or choose to extend your stay in Lake Maggiore for another week. (B)

Borromean Islands - included half day excursion
No trip to Lake Maggiore would be possible without visiting one or more of the Borromean Islands - a collection of three small islands in the lake. Enjoy an included excursion with a local guide, taking you first to Isola Bella with its splendid palace and landscaped garden, followed by a visit to Isola Pescatori, the only island with a permanent population with a delightful fishing village.
Centovalli Railway - optional
During your stay why not try out the Centovalli Railway, so called because of the stunning region of 'a hundred valleys' it passes through. Travel from Baveno or nearby Stresa to Domodossola and from here, take the Centovalli train onto Locarno in the northern tip of the lake. This scenic journey will take you past the Val Grande National Park plus vineyards, forests, villages and over bridges. Spend some time exploring the pretty town of Locarno before heading back by ferry.
Cablecar, Stresa - Mottarone - optional
Why not try something different during your stay in Lake Maggiore and have a go on the Cableway, starting in Carciano near Stresa and travelling up to Mottarone, at an altitude of 1,491 metres above sea level.
You can stop half way at the stunning Alpine Botanic Garden or continue up to the Mottarone, situated between Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta. Considered to be one of the most beautiful natural balconies in the region, and not only this, the views offered from this spot are amazing, from the Po Valley to the summits of the Alps, you will be impressed at being able to see across to the summit of Monte Rosa and the seven lakes (Lake Maggiore, Lake Orta, Lake Mergozzo, Lake Varese, Lake Camabbio, Lake Monate & Lake Biandronno). If you are feeling brave, take the chair lift even higher to Mottarone Vetta for more panoramic views.
