DAY 2 : Denver.

'The Mile High City' of Denver is the capital of Colorado and the gateway to the Rocky Mountains. An attractive city with broad streets, a tree-lined pedestrian mall leading to the gold-domed State Capitol and Larimer Square in the city's historic heart. There are also some fine museums and galleries to explore. Includes Breakfast

DAY 3 : Denver - Cheyenne - Black Hills of South Dakota - Keystone.

This morning, travel through Cheyenne, the state capital of Wyoming, on through the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota, immortalised in a famous song from the musical 'Calamity Jane', to the historic frontier town of Custer. Includes Breakfast

DAY 4 : Keystone - Crazy Horse - Mount Rushmore - Deadwood.

See Crazy Horse Memorial, a monument being carved out of a mountain that pays respect to the great Native American hero, Chief Crazy Horse. Drive deep into the Black Hills, through what was once Sioux Indian territory, to see the magnificent granite face of Mount Rushmore, a giant monument to four great American presidents - Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt. Afterwards visit Tatanka, 'The Story of the Bison', and experience the richness of the Lakota Indian life as it was around the 1840's. Next it's on to Deadwood, a lawless frontier town during the 1876 Gold Rush, where Wild Bill Hickok was murdered. Stay overnight.

DAY 5 : Deadwood - Sheridan - Cody.

This morning, head through the rich high country where open-range cattle kings made war on the homesteaders in the 1890's. Driving past Sheridan in the Bighorn Mountains, the scene of many fierce battles between the US Cavalry and the Sioux and Cheyenne Indians, arrive in Buffalo Bill's frontier town Cody, for the night. Includes Breakfast

DAY 6 : Cody - Yellowstone National Park.

Travel to incomparable Yellowstone National Park, America's largest nature reserve, which contains more than 10,000 geysers and hot springs. Drive along the Grand Loop Road to Artist Point with magnificent views of Yellowstone Canyon and the stupendous Lower Falls, twice the height of Niagara Falls. NOTE: Accommodations in Yellowstone National Park are typically open from late May to late September. Departures before or after this period will stay in West Yellowstone. The following departures will be accommodated in West Yellowstone just outside the west gate: 4,11,17,18,31 May; 7,14,21,28 Jun; 5,12,19 Jul; 16,23,30 Aug; 6,13,20,21,27,28 Sep. Routing and areas visited are subject to favourable weather, gate access and road conditions and thus routes may be adjusted.

DAY 7 : Yellowstone National Park.

Today, explore America's first National Park further by returning to the geyser basins with bubbling mud pots and the regular "blow" of Old Faithful at the Upper Geyser Basin. In addition to the superb mountain scenery, the park is one of the world's principle wildlife preserves and a photographer's paradise.

DAY 8 : Yellowstone - Grand Teton National Park - Jackson.

Head to the Grand Tetons. With saw-toothed, 13,770 feet high ridges crested with snow most of the year, it's one of America's last preserves of wild solitude. Arrive in the Wild West town of Jackson which with its wooden sidewalks and saloons with bat-wing doors, is just like a living film set! In the evening there's an optional barbecue cookout and Wild West show.

DAY 9 : Jackson.

Time to relax in Jackson or how about joining an optional scenic raft trip down the Snake River? Includes Breakfast

DAY 10 : Jackson - Salt Lake City.

Leave Jackson and drive to Salt Lake City, Utah's vibrant capital. Magnificently set on the edge of a salt desert and surrounded by mountains and forests, this is the centre of the Mormon religion where Brigham Young declared to his followers "This is the place". Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Salt Lake City including the Capital Building and the beautiful downtown area of the city. Includes Breakfast

DAY 11 : Salt Lake City - Bryce Canyon National Park.

Journey through sagebrush landscape to Bryce Canyon National Park, with its 20 miles of breathtaking sandstone cliffs and ever-changing colours. Marvel at some of the earth's most brilliant shades of rock, which have been sculpted by erosion into pillars called 'hoodoos'. Includes Breakfast

DAY 12 : Bryce Canyon National Park - Zion National Park - Page.

First stop today is Zion National Park, its striking landscape of steep canyons and stone towers carved out by rushing streams over a period of millions of years. Then head to Page, originally built to house workers during the construction of the massive Glen Canyon Dam, which holds back the waters of 186 mile long Lake Powell.

DAY 13 : Page - Painted Desert - Grand Canyon.

How about starting your day with an optional scenic flight over stunning Monument Valley? Then take a scenic drive through the Painted Desert and across the Kaibab National Forest, before arriving at the Grand Canyon in the early afternoon. Marvel at one of the Natural Wonders of the World and experience the most breathtaking views. There will be plenty of time to do some viewing before dusk as your accommodation is inside Grand Canyon National Park. Includes Breakfast

DAY 14 : Grand Canyon - Las Vegas.

Leaving the high country of Arizona, pass through Williams on famous Route 66 and then the old Mojave gold strike country, which still has traces of century-old ghost towns, to Las Vegas - a neon desert oasis, packed with spectacular hotels and casinos.

Dissapointed

10-Oct-2016

As above, rating only reflects the quality of the accommodation and sights seen. Overall not nearly as good as a previous tour we did with Archers to British Columbia which was faultless and was entirely British.

29-Sep-2016

The tour was excellent, only marred with poor organisation on arrival and on departure.

09-Sep-2016

08-Aug-2016

As always the tour was well paced with plenty of rest stops and our tour guide was very professional and experienced , a joy to travel with. A comfortable coach with a quiet kindly driver who kept us safe. The wildlife and scenery on the tour was awe...

02-Aug-2016

Tour manager excellent, great trip with such a great itinerary. So many wonderful things to see and just when you thought it couldn't get any better there was another wonderful day! Fantastic

13-Jul-2016

Good holiday but would have liked to spend more time in national parks and less time in some of the towns we stayed at. In retrospect would also have preferred extension in a national or state park. Las Vegas was awful - really not my cup of tea and ...

06-Jul-2016

Lodges at Cody a bit below par, more like Butlins.

22-Jun-2016

Too much crammed into a short space of time ,everything seemed a mad rush to keep up with the schedule.

very intensive tour but enjoyable. Will be booking Archers again.

National Parks and Canyon Country

Christopher Tyler 10/08/2015

What a fantastic trip of a lifetime a must for everyone to see the natural wonders that this trip provides.  An absolute pleasure from beginning to end. Our guide Mary who has seemingly endless knowledge on each and every aspect kept us informed every step of the way.  Driver Greg was at hand helping us off the coach with an amusing quip every time we stopped.  He unloaded nearly 100 cases each time we stopped for the night.  The 49 others on the trip made it extra special talking to them and discussing various points along the way.

Thank you so much archers and all who made it possible.

National Parks & Canyon Country

Lee Wadmore 26/11/2011

We have just returned from a tour that involved watching the sun set over the Grandest Canyon ever discovered, sipping coffee whilst witnessing Old Faithful spout a hundred feet into the clear blue sky, enjoying the tranquility of crystal blue lakes reflect the majestic Teton mountains, and climbing the Eiffel Tower without visiting Paris. We haven't mentioned, but have not forgotten, going to a rodeo in the heart of cowboy country, staring up at the murals inside Utah State Capitol in Salt Lake City, marvelling at the rock formation inside Zion National Park and standing awestricken before the presidents at Mount Rushmore. And then there's jaw-dropping Bryce, dynamic Denver, and the full American breakfasts in Jackson Hole!
Add to this the thrill of seeing something and somewhere different each day for a fortnight, not having to plan anything except where you'd like to dine that evening, and never having to lift a suitcase, you get a taste of an Archers Holiday. The driver was a real gentleman; the tour guide a true professional. We could not have asked for more, and it is not often these days that you feel you have had real value for money. It was worth every penny and we would happily do it all over again!

Thank you for your request.
