Norway's Fjords Cruise from Newcastle (7 September)
Marvel at the spectacular beauty of the Norwegian fjords and visit some of northern Europe's most charming and cosmopolitan cities.
Your Itinerary
DAY 1: Newcastle, UK.
Make your own way to Newcastle to join your cruise ship, Boudicca. Your ship will depart late afternoon, latest embarkation time is 4pm. (D)
DAY 2: At sea.
(B, L, D)
DAY 3: Ålesund.
One of Norway's most picturesque fishing ports, Ålesund enjoys a beautiful setting across several islands stretching into the sea. Devastated by a fire in 1904, the town was rebuilt in a delightful art nouveau style including towers and turrets with intriguing echoes of ancient Nordic mythology. Why not take an optional tour of the city and surrounding area to admire breathtaking panoramic views from Mount Aksla and the Borgundfjord, visit Godoy and other Giske islands, or perhaps take a tranquil cruise on Hjorundfjord? (B, L, D)
DAY 4: Olden.
Sitting at the head of the spectacular inner arm of the Nordfjord, the charming and peaceful village of Olden enjoys a fairytale setting. The awe-inspiring scenery around the town seems to have fallen straight from the pages of a storybook, with lush green pastures, mirror-like glassy lakes and sparkling waterfalls cascading down from high ice fields. The most remarkable sight of all is the vast and spectacular glaciers, which are some of the largest in mainland Europe. Why not join an excursion to one of the glaciers such as Jostedal, Briksdal or Kjenndalen Glacier and Lovatnet Lake? (B, L, D)
DAY 5: Flam, Sognefjord.
Set on Sognefjord, the world's longest and deepest fjord, Flam Valley is an area of outstanding natural beauty, with towering peaks and cascading waterfalls. To fully appreciate the magnificence of the region, why not take an optional scenic train journey? The train makes regular stops to allow you to take in the spectacular views. (B, L, D)
DAY 6: Bergen.
Bergen is the country's second largest city and gateway to the fjords. Enjoy free time this morning to explore the ancient Bryggen area, with its beautifully preserved wooden Hanseatic buildings dating back to medieval times. (B, L, D)
