Your Itinerary

DAY 1: UK - Palermo.

Fly to Palermo where you will be met by your representative and transferred to your hotel, the President, for four nights. (D)

DAY 2: Palermo - Monreale.

Today begins with the chance to acquaint yourself fully with the island’s splendid capital, Palermo. Your local guide will show you around the most famous sights including the cathedral with its Palatine Chapel and a host of pretty squares and market places. Then it is just a short drive to Monreale with its own impressive cathedral, replete with well-preserved medieval mosaics, which number as some of the best preserved in the world. You will have plenty of free time for a leisurely lunch followed by shopping or sightseeing at your own pace. (B, D)

DAY 3: Segesta - Erice.

This morning, head out into the beautiful countryside for a brief visit to Segesta and the 16-pillared Greek temple surrounded by a ravine. Then prepare yourself for a treat; next stop is Erice, an ancient mountain town set 2,500 feet above sea level. Here you can explore its quaint cobbled streets and piazzas before enjoying the stunning views over the surrounding countryside and nearby coastal islands from the medieval castle ruins. You will have time for lunch before returning to your hotel. (B, D)

DAY 4: Cefalu - Castelbuono.

The coast beckons today, as you head to Cefalu, a traditional fishing village whose Norman cathedral dominates the skyline. The village also boasts a tangle of streets and a tree-lined piazza as well as what you would expect, some delightful sandy beaches. You will have free time for lunch before we visit nearby Castelbuono a fine medieval town, where you will be able to visit its 14th century church and the castle from which it took its name. Don’t miss the chance to sample some of its delicious sweet products, such as Sicilian pastry, nougats and cakes before returning for your last night in Palermo. (B, D)

DAY 5: Palermo - Agrigento - Piazza Armerina - Letojanni.

Today begins with another fascinating trip, this time to Agrigento's acclaimed Valley of the Temples which Sicilians are proud to claim showcases some of the best preserved Doric temples outside Greece. You'll have a tour with a local guide of this enthralling UNESCO World Heritage site, including visits to two of its nine imposing temples. On the way to Letojanni for four nights, stop at Piazza Armerina, a medieval village famous for its stunning, mosaic-floored Roman Villa del Casale, which displays detailed scenes from mythology and daily Roman life. (B, D)

DAY 6: Mount Etna.

An unforgettable morning visit to brooding Mount Etna, one of the world's largest and most active volcanoes - 60,000 years old, its lava-walled crater and smouldering potholes are a breathtaking reminder of the power of nature. We climb to around 6,500 feet but for the adventurous, there is an optional cable car or jeep excursion up to approximately 7,500 feet. Afterwards, head to the charming Taormina, with its twisting streets including the famous shopping street of Corso Umberto, beautiful gardens and magnificent Greek theatre with stunning views over the sea and Etna, now in the distance. (B, D)

DAY 7: Letojanni. At leisure.

Today you can decide what you want to do, be it to relax at your hotel, take a leisurely lunch by the sea or explore this wonderful island some more. We have plenty of ideas depending on what your mood is. Why not join the optional boat excursion to the Aeolian islands of Lipari and Vulcano, where you can delight in the pretty scenery, including the Horse Cave and pumice rocks on Lipari, before heading to Vulcano with its spa-like sea. Alternatively, we offer an excursion to the stunning Cyclops coast followed by a visit to Catania. This apart from the beautiful scenery, gives you time to explore lovely baroque buildings, a fish market, Catania cathedral and its best known shopping street, Via Etnea. (B, D)

DAY 8: Syracuse - Ortigia.

Your final day takes in Syracuse, a town founded in the 7th century BC and renowned for its incredible archeological ruins. Your local guide will explain all, including the Greek theatre, the catacombs, Roman Amphitheatre and famous Dionysus Ear. Once you have had your fill, we head to the island of Ortigia - though it is connected to the mainland by a bridge - and its 2,700 years of history. Get a feel for this little gem with a visit to the Temple of Apollo, the baroque cathedral and Arethusa fountain. You will have time for lunch and further exploration before returning to Letojanni for dinner. (B, D)

DAY 9: Letojanni - Catania - UK.

Transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK, or extend your stay in the Taormina area. (B)
