The Dutch and Belgian Waterways with Keukenhof and Floriade
This wonderful cruise offers you the chance to visit not only the world famous Keukenhof Gardens but also the Floriade which is a magnificent World Horticultural Expo staged once every ten years in the Netherlands. It attracts visitors from all over the world and is simply not to be missed.
Your Itinerary
DAY 1: Amsterdam.
Upon arrival in Amsterdam you will be met and transferred to the port where you will board the Royal Crown. Settle into your cabin and explore the onboard amenities at your leisure, before joining your fellow guests for a welcome cocktail, followed by your first sumptuous dinner on board this evening. (D)
DAY 2: Keukenhof Gardens.
Today you have the opportunity to join an exceptional optional excursion to the Keukenhof Gardens. Located between Amsterdam and the Hague, the National Flower Exhibition Grounds cover no less than 70 acres and present a magnificent display which includes around 700 varieties of tulips. Lunch will be served back on board the Royal Crown and the afternoon is at leisure for you to enjoy the sights of Amsterdam. (B, L, D)
DAY 3: Schoonhoven - Kinderdijk - Rotterdam.
This morning the Royal Crown drops anchor in Schoonhoven, where the rivers Lek (Rhine) and Vlist meet. An optional tour will introduce you to Schoonhoven, known as Holland's 'Silver City', and to Gouda, the cheese capital of the Netherlands. Back on board, a culinary lunch awaits as the Royal Crown sets sail for Kinderdijk, home to 19 historic windmills. Learn about the Dutch battle against the water and take a guided tour through the park to see a fully working mill during the afternoon's optional tour. In the late afternoon, the ship will continue to Rotterdam for dinner and overnight. (B, L, D)
DAY 4: Rotterdam.
The Royal Crown will remain in Rotterdam today and you have the opportunity to explore this vibrant port. Rotterdam has been an important commercial centre since the 12th century - each year some 32000 freight ships sail into Europe via Rotterdam, the world's largest harbour. (B, L, D)
DAY 5: Antwerp.
Antwerp, the largest city in Flanders, is today's destination. Here you can choose to join an optional coach and walking tour which will introduce you to the world's leading diamond city. Alternatively you can explore Antwerp's historic buildings and museums, containing art by Rubens and Van Dyck, independently. (B, L, D)
DAY 6: Dordrecht - Nijmegen
After a leisurely cruise along the Belgian and Dutch waterways, the Royal Crown docks in Dordrecht. From here you can take an optional excursion to Delft, the well-preserved medieval canal city where the famous painter Vermeer was born. Take a walking tour to see the leaning tower of Oude Kerk and Nieuwe Kerk, where the tomb of Willem van Oranje, the National Father, is located. In the afternoon the cruise continues to Nijmegen, the oldest city in the Netherlands. (B, L, D)
DAY 7: Venlo (for Floriade World Horticultural Expo 2012).
Today you have a unique opportunity to join the optional trip to Floriade, the World Horticultural Expo, in Venlo. This theatre of nature showcases a vast selection of flowers, plants, trees, fruit and vegetables from across the globe. Hear beautiful music and soar over the park in the largest cable car in the Netherlands. Return to the ship in Nijmegen and enjoy a Farewell Dinner to mark the last night of your cruise as you sail towards Amsterdam. (B, L, D)
DAY 8: Amsterdam.
After breakfast, disembark your ship. You will be met and transferred to the aiport for your flight to the UK. (B)
