Flexible dining times – a choice of four dinner settings

Thanks to the unique design of the two – storey main dining rooms, the MS Westerdam offers its guests four convenient sittings for dinner. For example, if your party consists of a family, you may wish to eat and be seated early, whilst couples and older guests often feel more comfortable with a later dinner seating. Whatever your dining time preference, the MS Westerdam can accommodate. Upon embarkation you will find a confirmation card in your stateroom indicating your seating assignment and table number. If for some reason your dining request was not submitted before your cruise date, the Maitre d' will assign you available seating.

In 1609, the sailing vessel de Halve Maen (Half Moon) set sail from Amsterdam to New York. Henry Hudson was at the helm, and the ship belonged to the Dutch East India Company. In honour of the rich seafaring tradition that remains at the heart and soul of Holland America Line today, a Waterford Crystal sculpture of the Halve Maen adorns the MS Westerdam's colourful, welcoming atrium.

The staff in the Beauty Salon can make you look and feel your best. Specially - trained professionals offer a full range of services such as hairdressing and beauty treatments. All services are available from 8.00am until 8.00pm. Appointments are strongly suggested (particularly for formal nights) and can only be booked on board.

Shopping

You will find a variety of wonderful merchandise from around the world in the shopping arcade. Items for sale range from jewellery to clothing and souvenirs, as well as a selection of. The shops on board offer duty-free prices for most items and are open when the ship is at sea. The shops are not allowed to open in port in accordance with Customs regulations.

Greenhouse Spa

To help you stay in shape, MS Westerdam is equipped with the luxurious Greenhouse Spa, offering both aerobic and strength-training equipment, with a team of personal trainers always on hand. Pilates, yoga, and personal training classes are also available (additional charge may apply).
Our spa offers a number of treatments to help you relax and rejuvenate. Why not indulge in a massage or facial? Space is limited for these popular services, so early booking is recommended.

MS Westerdam Cruise Ship - Dress Code

First and foremost, dress for comfort. Daily life aboard ship and in ports of call is relaxed and casual. Warmer climates call for clothing made of lightweight, breathable fabrics. For cooler climates and evenings, we suggest casual clothes that can be layered easily and possibly a raincoat and waterproof hat or umbrella and gloves. Certain shore excursions may require particular attention to clothing. For example, certain churches, or other places of worship, may not allow tank tops or shorts. Shoes and something to cover up swimwear when walking through the interior of the ship are required. If you would like to jog on the sports deck or work out in the fitness centre, bring workout gear. Footwear should include comfortable walking shoes for visits ashore and sandals or rubber-soled shoes for strolling on deck.

Each night a daily program will be delivered to your stateroom announcing the suggested dress for the following evening.

Evening dress falls into two distinct categories; Formal or Smart Casual. Smart Casual can be defined as trousers and sports shirt or sweater for men and skirt or trousers and sweater or blouse for women. T-shirts, swimsuits, tank tops and shorts are not allowed in the restaurants or public areas in the evening. On festive Formal evenings, ladies usually wear cocktail dress or gown and gentlemen usually wear a suit and tie or a dinner jacket. There are approximately two formal nights per week.

Please note that a gratuity of $10 per person per day for dining and cabin services will be automatically added to your shipboard account on a daily basis. A 15% service charge will be automatically added to your bar charges and dining room wine account.

In terminals, airports, ports of call and on shore excursions, we suggest that you extend gratuities consistent with customary local practices.

MS Westerdam Cruise Ship - Smoking Policy

For the comfort of all guests, designated non-smoking areas are available in most bars and lounges. Smoking is not permitted at any time in dining areas. The ship doesn’t feature "non - smoking" staterooms; however, all rooms are thoroughly cleaned after each cruise to assure the comfort of all guests. All showrooms are non-smoking during performances.

MS Westerdam Cruise Ship - Currency

The US dollar is the only currency accepted on board. US travellers cheques are also accepted. . In most ports of call you can easily exchange your US dollars into the local currency at banks, airports and major hotels. In many countries, you can use your ATM card to obtain local currency. Most locations will accept major credit cards and some will even accept US dollars. If you choose to use US dollars, carry smaller denominations - ones, fives, tens and twenties.

Please note: Foreign currencies or UK £ Travellers Cheques cannot be accepted or exchanged by the Front Office.

MS Westerdam Cruise Ship - Electrical Appliances

All staterooms feature individually controlled air conditioning, a television for viewing CNN, movies and on board features. Additionally, all staterooms are equipped with standard 110 AC and 220 AC outlets. Hairdryers are available in all staterooms.

For safety reasons, we respectfully request that you use irons in your stateroom. In addition, full laundry and valet services are available on board.
