Ischia & the Bay of Naples

As soon as you arrive in Ischia you will be in no doubt as to why the ancient Greeks and Romans considered this to be a supernatural paradise with miraculous health-giving magic. The island’s spectacular setting in the azure blue Bay of Naples; the dramatic volcanic landscapes. Head north east along the coast from Ischia town and you come to Casamicciola, the island’s oldest thermal resort. The numerous hot springs here have intriguing names like ‘tamburo’ (drum), ‘Oro’ (gold) and ‘Argento’ (silver). However, the most important are the Santa Rita and Gurgitello springs, which can reach temperatures of up to 60 degrees, while the resort is also famous as the site of the hidden Cava Bianca del Monaco, source of the therapeutic mud which is used throughout the island.
