Pride of America is a stylish ship that carries 2,144 passengers and was launched in June 2005. As the first brand new US flagged cruise ship in nearly 50 years, Pride of America's interior has been designed to reflect America's favourite places including the Hollywood Theatre, Napa Wine Bar, Gold Rush Saloon and the Key West Bar and Grill. There are plenty of on board entertainment and activity options to enjoy while cruising the Pacific. All the crew are American and the on board currency is the US dollar.
NCL have been dedicated to championing their unique Freestyle Cruising concept since the turn of the century and, if you're one of those people who've always fancied a cruise but were always put off by the idea of set dining times, rigid seating plans and too much formality, then we believe an NCL cruise could be just right for you.

Freestyle Cruising gives guests the freedom to dress as they please.
Resort casual attire is always appropriate morning, noon and night.
However, NCL does not allow any blue jeans, t-shirts, shorts, cut-offs,
tank tops, bare feet, etc. in any fine dining restaurants for dinner,
including all main restaurants, alternative restaurants, and cover
charge venues.
Guests are allowed to wear blue jeans, shorts and t-shirts, in the evenings
at the buffets, outdoor barbeques, and 24-hour venues, such as the Blue
Lagoon, the Cadillac diner, etc.
Below are a few exceptions to the dining room dress code:
- Blue Jeans will be allowed in the Trattoria's in the evenings.
- Hawaiian shirts are allowed with proper slacks in all dining rooms.
- Ladies Capri Pants, which are a length between the knee and ankles, are acceptable in all fine dining rooms as long as they are not blue jean capris.
Service Charge
A fixed service charge of $10 per person, per day will be added
to your onboard account. NCL’s crew is encouraged to work together
as a service team and is compensated by a combination of salary and
incentive programs that the service charge supports. It is our earnest
wish that you enjoy your Freestyle Cruising experience and that the
entire crew in all areas of the ship will provide you with the standard
of service for which NCL is known. Therefore, if you have any concerns
about the service you receive during your cruise, please bring them
to the immediate attention of the reception desk staff on board so
that they can address any issues in a timely manner before the cruise
is over.
NCL has a structured guest satisfaction program on board designed
to handle any concerns raised by guests relating to the service or
on board product quickly and efficiently. In almost all cases they
are able to come up with a satisfactory solution to any issues which
are raised and make sure guests can focus on enjoying their cruise
holiday. In the unlikely event we cannot satisfactorily resolve the
issue through the guest satisfaction program, guests will be able
to adjust the service charge according to the level of inconvenience
they feel they have experienced. Our clear priority is to have the
opportunity to resolve the issue, when it happens, to everyone’s
complete satisfaction.
Tipping
Unlike most other ships in the cruise industry, there is no required
or recommended tipping on NCL ships. Guests should not feel obliged
to offer a gratuity for service that is generally rendered to
all guests.
However, all staff are encouraged to "go the extra mile",
and so they are permitted to accept cash gratuities entirely at
the discretion of guests who wish to acknowledge particular staff
members for exceptional or outstanding service. In other words, there
is genuinely no need to tip but you should feel free to do so if
you have a desire to acknowledge particular individuals.
Also, certain staff positions provide service on an individual
basis to only some guests. We encourage those guests to acknowledge
good service from these staff members with appropriate gratuities.
For example, for guests purchasing bar drinks the recommended
gratuity is 15%.
NCL strongly believes that guests with special needs should have
the amenities they need to enjoy their cruise. As such, each ship
offers designated staterooms with wider doorways and bathrooms that
will accommodate wheelchairs and staterooms with lights and under-pillow
vibrating alarms for guests with hearing impairments. Many staterooms
have refrigerators that can be used to store medications that must
be kept cold.
Any physical disability or request requiring special treatment or attention
should be reported to our Special Needs Department when the reservation
is made, so that appropriate accommodations can be provided. NCL reserves
the right to refuse or to revoke passage to anyone in such physical
or mental condition as to be unfit for travel or who, in the judgment
of the carrier, may be a danger to themselves or others.
Diabetes
Refrigerators are available in many staterooms for storing insulin.
Diet
NCL offers breakfast, lunch and dinner menus that include low-calorie, haute cuisine recipes from Cooking Light magazine. Their top-rated chefs can also prepare vegetarian entrees (nutrition information provided), as well as low/no sodium and low/no cholesterol entrees. Sugar-free and fat-free desserts are also available.
Hearing Impairments
Select staterooms are available on most ships for guests with hearing disabilities. Among the adaptive devices to make their cruise more enjoyable are in-stateroom lights and vibrating alarms that fit under a pillow and alert the guest to a doorbell, phone or emergency situation.
Onboard Medical Care
Guests are entitled to free medication for seasickness. Customary charges may be made for all other services. Commonly used medications are kept on board and may be purchased at the office of the ship's doctor. Dramamine, Meclazine, Alka-Seltzer and aspirin are available free at the Purser's Desk.
Oxygen Users
Guests who need oxygen or require oxygen therapy are welcome on all NCL ships; however, they must supply their own oxygen and liquid oxygen is not permitted onboard.
Wheelchair Users Sailing In Disabled Cabins
Though NCL does have wheelchairs on board for emergency or isolated incidents, guests that require full time use of a wheel chair must provide their own. Motorized wheelchairs and Scooters are welcome as well; however, they must be powered by gel-cell batteries. Due to safety regulations, NCL will not accept any wet-cell or acid battery-powered wheelchairs on board the ships. The wheelchair battery charger must be adaptable to 110 voltages.
Wheelchair Users Not-Sailing in Disabled Cabins
Though NCL does have wheelchairs on board for emergency or isolated incidents, guests that require full time use of a wheel chair must provide their own. Wheelchairs are welcome; however, they must be collapsible if the guest is not booked in a disabled cabin.
Smoking is allowed in limited areas onboard, but not in any restaurant or in the showrooms.
You may cash travellers cheques at the Reception Desk. Currency exchange, at prevailing rates, is available on some cruises. Travellers cheques and most major credit cards are accepted in the ports we visit. Proper ID is required when cashing travellers cheques. We recommend you carry a small amount of local currency when visiting foreign ports, although credit cards are commonly accepted in shops and restaurants.
The current on board is 110 volts AC. However, some high-voltage hair dryers, electric rollers and electric razors may require a converter.
