Great Lakes holidays

Love pristine beauty and rugged scenery? Then choose a tour of the USA or Canada that takes in the Great Lakes. Formed at the end of the last Ice Age, the Great Lakes consist of five huge, interconnected freshwater lakes on the Canada-US border: Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie and Ontario.

In summer, the Lakes are a hive of outdoor adventures, including hiking and kayaking.  Our Great Lakes holidays visit some of the most fascinating places along the Lakes, including Chicago and Milwaukee along Lake Michigan; and Toronto on the shores of Ontario.

Out and about

Not for nothing are the Great Lakes called just that.  They are the largest land locked masses of water anywhere in the World, almost giving the impression of inland seas.  Should you visit somewhere like Chicago, nearby Lake Michigan is just crying out to be explored in all its vast panoramic and wild and windswept beauty.

Activities

With so much water, there are naturally many water-based activities to enjoy.  There is traditional canoeing and all the exhilaration of fishing trips.  But for those who want to keep their feet on dry and with so much coastline to explore, walking is an absolute must and so too is the leisurely pursuit of horse riding.

Shopping

If you love shopping, the 'windy city' itself, downtown Chicago is the place for you.  Its lovely wide boulevards house some of the best shops anywhere.  You will find many of the world's renowned names here and a few surprises too.  If you are after the ultimate shopping experience it really is well worth a visit.

Food and drink

Whether you are visiting, Lake Michigan, Chicago, Wisconsin or somewhere slightly further afield, you can always be assured of a warm welcome wherever you go.  There are numerous bar, restaurants and eateries that can offer everything from a mouthwatering hot dog to a man sized steak.  And should you fancy it there are many home grown traditional ales to make any meal complete.
