Holiday Itinerary
DAY 1: UK - New York.
Fly to New York and transfer to your hotel for two nights. This mesmerising city is the world's most exciting metropolis and bursts with iconic sights, cosmopolitan restaurants, great shopping and sparkling Broadway shows, so you'll never be short of things to do.
DAY 2: New York.
A full day to immerse yourself in everything New York has to offer. From buzzing Times Square to world-class museums, the city has something for everyone in its captivating montage of historic and diverse neighbourhoods. Catch the ferry to Liberty Island to climb the legendary Statue of Liberty and gaze at the spectacular Manhattan vistas, visit the stunning Empire State building, stroll leafy Central Park, explore funky SoHo or shop till you drop at stores like Macy's and Bloomingdale's. This evening, the city's your oyster - perhaps sip cocktails at a glittering skyscraper bar, hit a Broadway show or dine at one of the myriad of restaurants, maybe in colourful Chinatown or Little Italy.
DAY 3: New York.
Morning to relax or perhaps catch some of the sights missed yesterday. Maybe hunt for last-minute souvenirs in Greenwich Village, browse the fascinating Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art or just wallow in the city's dizzying atmosphere. This afternoon, transfer to your cruise ship, Norwegian Dawn. (D)
DAY 4: At sea.
Relax on board the comfortable Norwegian Dawn and enjoy the many facilities on board as you sail northwards along America's Eastern seaboard towards Nova Scotia. (B, L, D)
DAY 5: Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Located along a spectacular coastline, the beautiful capital of Nova Scotia was the first permanent British settlement in Canada and combines big city excitement with inescapable small-town charm. Oozing maritime heritage and renowned for its connections to the doomed Titanic, this historic city was founded in 1749 and is clustered around a picturesque harbour. Discover its best-known sights on a horse-drawn carriage or British double-decker bus tour, taking in the impressive star-shaped Citadel and lovely public gardens before exploring its bustling shops, galleries and cafes, famed for serving tea and crumpets. Alternatively, head out to pretty Peggy's Cove, nestled in craggy shores nearby and renowned for its lighthouse and brightly painted houses. Tuck into a delicious lobster lunch whilst enjoying the scenic seascapes, which inspire the artists that flock here every summer. (B, L, D)
DAY 6: St John, Bay of Fundy.
Rich in history, this harbour town dates back to 1528 and is located at the mouth of the St John River on the Bay of Fundy. Visit the old City Market for a variety of fresh seafood, vegetables, crafts and souvenirs, or take a relaxing stroll through the narrow streets. Wander through historic Trinity Royal or visit Canada's oldest independent brewery. The Reversing Falls are also worth a visit, when the water of the Bay of Fundy mixes with the St John River, the river is pushed back, creating 'reversing falls' or rapids. (B, L, D)
DAY 7: Bar Harbor, Maine.
Originally given the name 'Eden' by its first inhabitants, Bar Harbor has a special mystique. The town, located at the gateway to the Arcadia National Park, was once one of the most exclusive resorts in the world, with artists, poets and writers exploiting the island's natural beauty. Enjoy time at leisure to explore the town or to join one of the optional excursions on offer. Perhaps journey the 27 mile loop around the National Park followed by a fresh lobster bake, or board a four-masted schooner for a relaxing sail on Frenchman's Bay. (B, L, D)
DAY 8: Boston, Massachusetts.
Boasting more colleges than any other US city, Boston exudes fascinating history and an effervescent, intellectual culture driven by its thriving student community. History enthusiasts will love walking the Freedom Trail to witness its most notable sights and touring the replica Boston Tea Party ship. Other highlights include buzzing Harvard Square, pretty Louisbourg Square, TV's famous Cheers bar and the New England Aquarium, all easily walkable in this compact city. Before you leave, browse Boston's galleries and stylish shops, perhaps picking up reminders of your time in this delightful metropolis. (B, L, D)
DAY 9: Newport, Rhode Island.
Home to spectacular coastal scenery, awe-inspiring architecture, a thriving waterfront and welcoming hospitality, Newport is considered by many to be one of the gems of New England's coastline. This quaint, colonial town has long been the summer home of New England's rich and famous and was frequented by John F. Kennedy. Explore the area's rich history by combining a scenic drive through the town with a tour of one of the many grand mansions. Alternatively, admire the beauty of the town's rocky coastline on an optional cliff walking tour. (B, L, D)
DAY 10: New York.
