Holiday Itinerary

DAY 1: UK - Berlin - Magdeburg.
Fly to Berlin where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your cruise ship, Viking Schumann in Magdeburg for embarkation. Your cruise includes full board from dinner tonight until breakfast on day 8. (D)

DAY 2: Dessau.
After lunch enjoy an included excursion to the Wörlitz Palace and Gardens in Dessau, a stunning area of classical architecture and exquisite English-style gardens and parklands, designated a UNESCO World Heritage site for its beauty. Visit Wörlitz Castle and enjoy a leisurely stroll around the grounds before returning for dinner on board your ship. (B, L, D)

DAY 3: Wittenberg - Torgau.
Explore Wittenberg, home to the medieval Lutheran religion, on an included sightseeing tour of the city today, taking in its Luther Hall, Renaissance houses, market square and Palace Church where Luther nailed his famous thesis to the door. Set sail in the afternoon for Torgau, where you can enjoy an optional evening stroll around this lovely Saxon town. (B, L, D)

DAY 4: Meissen - Dresden.
Spend the morning sailing towards Meissen, Europe's oldest porcelain-producing town. After lunch, enjoy an included visit to a porcelain factory and the picturesque old town, which once inspired Romantic artists. This evening, set sail for Dresden. (B, L, D)

DAY 5: Dresden.
This morning, discover the stunning Baroque city of Dresden on an included tour, including the Green Vault museum, whose rare jewel collection includes the Dresden Green Diamond - the largest green diamond ever found. This afternoon, enjoy free time to explore the city at leisure, or why not take an optional excursion to Schloss Pillnitz? Set in the heart of an idyllic park, the main buildings of the castle display a mix of Baroque and Japanese architectural styles, now home to an extensive collection of arts and crafts. (B, L, D)

DAY 6: Dresden - Bad Schandau - Decin.
Sail to Bad Schandau in Saxon Switzerland, arriving at lunchtime. In the afternoon, enjoy an included excursion to the Bastei Rock, a local beauty spot 200 metres above the Elbe, commanding awesome views of the river and dramatic landscape. Enjoy some free time to walk along narrow footpaths to the rock bridge at Rathen. Continue cruising to Decin, where you will arrive after dinner. (B, L, D)

DAY 7: Decin - Litomerice.
Sitting on the confluence of the Elbe and Ohre Rivers amid castle-studded countryside, Litomerice is one of the Czech Republic's most beautiful cities. Enjoy an included walk around the 13th century walled city with its graceful Renaissance and Baroque architecture, huddled around a charming town square, as well as a haunting underground network of spooky tunnels and cellars. In the evening there is a traditional Czech folk show. (B, L, D)

DAY 8: Melnik - Prague.
Early morning arrival in Melnik, where you will disembark after breakfast and transfer to your hotel in Prague for a two night stay. Enjoy the rest of your day at leisure exploring this beautiful city. (B)

DAY 9: Prague.
Immerse yourself in the beauty of Prague on an optional sightseeing tour, or explore at leisure. Grand architecture, cobbled streets and a lively atmosphere make Prague one of Europe's finest and most attractive destinations. The city also boasts a rich musical heritage, having been the former home of Dvorak and Smetana, two of the world's greatest composers. Today is yours to savour this enchanting city at your own pace, perhaps visiting the beautifully preserved landmarks of Charles Bridge, the Old Town Hall with its Astronomical Clock, the National Theatre or the spectacular Belvedere Gardens. Don't miss the ancient Mala Strana with its great-value restaurants and cafés, the old Jewish quarter and buzzing Wenceslas Square - a wonderful spot for a relaxing drink. (B)
