Holiday Itinerary
DAY 1: UK - Miami.
Fly to Miami where you will be met and transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay.
DAY 2: Miami.
Enjoy free time this morning to explore vibrant Miami. Famous for its Art Deco style architecture, this cosmopolitan city is the southernmost in the USA, yet has a decidedly Latin American feel with a happening, vibrant lifestyle that will sweep you off your feet. Discover its pristine, white-sand beaches and the beautifully restored, pink-and-blue waterfront buildings of South Beach, stroll along glitzy Ocean Drive or shop till you drop on South Beach's Lincoln Road. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the port for embarkation of your cruise ship, the beautiful Norwegian Jewel. (D)
DAY 3: At sea.
Relax on board as your ship cruises towards the islands of the Southern Caribbean. Perhaps lounge on deck, take refreshing dips in the swimming pool or enjoy the many other amenities and entertainments Norwegian Jewel offers. (B, L, D)
DAY 4: Samaná.
Set on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, this paradise-like natural peninsula is heaven for beach- and nature-lovers. Regarded as the prettiest area of the Republic, it's known for its unspoilt, porcelain-white beaches, crystal mountain streams and lush, tropical rainforest. Samaná Bay is prime whale-watching territory, especially during January and February, when up to 3,000 migrating humpback whales visit its waters during their annual mating season. Explore the nearby island of Cayo Levantado, known as the Bacardi Isle for its nodding palm trees, which basks just off the coast and is cloaked in dense forests and blissful beaches. Alternatively, travel through verdant mountains to Salto de Limon to gasp at its famous 100-foot high waterfall, which seems to have come straight from a fairytale. (B, L, D)
DAY 5: Road Town, Tortola.
Today your ship docks in Tortola, arguably the most beautiful of the British Virgin Islands. From its quaint brightly painted capital of Road Town, it's easy to savour its untouched splendours, perhaps meandering around the Botanical Gardens or sunbathing and snorkelling on the dazzling sands of Cane Garden Bay in between rum cocktails. Alternatively, enjoy an optional 4x4 or bus trip into the interior or walk the trails around the magnificent, rainforest-clad Sage Mountain Park for spectacular island and ocean views. Or revel in a relaxing catamaran trip around the island's shores, a cruise to the stunning islet of Virgin Gorda with its heavenly coves, or perhaps swim with the dolphins at the protected Prospect Reef dolphin sanctuary. (B, L, D)
DAY 6: Antigua.
Blessed with 365 golden beaches, stunning Antigua has a deliciously laid-back atmosphere that'll have you relaxed in no time. With its warm, steady winds and encircling coral reefs, it's a dream for sun, snorkelling, windsurfing and other watersports fans. Located in the Leeward Islands, the first settlers arrived here in the 1600s and the island stayed a part of the British Commonwealth until 1981. Get a feel for its colourful maritime history at Nelson's Dockyard, a restored working dock brimming with Georgian buildings and English Harbour, where the British Fleet once anchored. Other delights include taking a leisurely optional boat trip to see its beautiful Jumby Bay and Devil's Bridge, a dramatic coastal rock arch, stopping for a beach picnic on the idyllic, uninhabited Green Island on your way. (B, L, D)
DAY 7: Barbados.
Barbados has something for everyone with its palm-fringed beaches, friendly people, graceful plantation houses and historic towns. Cricket, afternoon tea and English churches all encapsulate this beautiful island's British colonial legacy, mingling with its sugar plantations and love of calypso to give it an exotic yet familiar feel. Today join an optional tour delving into its rich past and present, taking in the impressive colonial architecture of its capital Bridgetown, historic Garrison Savannah and a rum factory to discover how its sweet, dark rum is made. Tour the elegant Sunbury Plantation House, a living monument to bygone plantation life and visit a traditional mahogany workshop to see craftsmen carve and polish beautiful wood ornaments. Alternatively, head to a Green Monkey Wildlife Reserve to watch the island's famously mischievous creatures at play. (B, L, D)
DAY 8: St Lucia.
The tropical island of many people's dreams, St Lucia will steal your heart with its immaculate sands, cliff-framed coves, lush forests and famous, forested peaks, the Pitons. Discover its jungles riven with waterfalls, snorkel in the aquamarine seas lapping its black and white-sand beaches, sample the spicy Creole food inspired by its time under French governance and journey to Sulphur Springs, the world's only drive-in volcano, where you can see the steam rising from the craters between the springs. Don't miss an optional boat ride to the Pitons, the two spellbinding peaks, which rise sheer from the sea and are perhaps the most photographed landmark in the Caribbean. (B, L, D)
DAY 9-10: At sea.
Two days to laze on board Norwegian Jewel as she cruises towards Florida. Sunbathe on deck, share your experiences with fellow travellers and take advantage of the many facilities your ship offers. (B, L, D)
DAY 11: Miami - UK.
Disembark this morning after breakfast and transfer to Miami airport for your return flight to the UK. (B)
DAY 12: Home landing in the UK.
