Holiday Itinerary

DAY 1: Liverpool, UK.
Make your own way to Liverpool to join your cruise ship, Boudicca. Your ship departs at 4.30pm and the latest embarkation is at 3.30pm. (D)

DAY 2: At sea.
Relax on board Boudicca as you cruise towards Bergen. You'll be able to take full advantage of the on board entertainment programme and all the excellent facilities. (B, L, D)

DAY 3: Bergen.
Known as the 'gateway to the Norwegian fjords' and the 'city of seven hills', charming Bergen was the birthplace of the composer Edvard Grieg. Bursting with history, culture and picture-postcard charm, it sits amongst steep, mountainous slopes that create an amphitheatre effect around the harbour front. Why not join the optional city tour to admire the labyrinth of cobbled streets lined with medieval houses, Rosenkrantz Tower, and Bryggen Wharf, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its brightly painted Hanseatic merchants' houses and animated harbourside cafés. Alternatively, join an optional excursion to spectacular Hardangerfjord or picturesque Lysoen Island, or take a funicular railway ride to the summit of Mount Floeyen, whose peaks tower 1,000 feet above the city, to admire spellbinding views over the city. (B, L, D)

DAY 4: Flam - Gudvangen.
Nestled amidst precipitous mountain slopes dotted with green farmland and tumbling waterfalls, Flam is a delightful small town set on a tranquil tributary at the southern end of the Sognefjord - Norway's longest fjord. Today, visit Flam on an optional excursion and ride the famous Flam Railway: one of the world's greatest train journeys. Perhaps head to the tiny village of Geilo to see its wooden stave church, take in the impressive scenery of Aurlandsfjord, or enjoy a scenic drive to Osterbo Mountain Lodge. In the afternoon head to Gudvangen, a picturesque town set on the Sognefjord and enjoy time to admire the spectacular scenery or perhaps join the optional trip to Stalheim and the Tvinde Waterfall. (B, L, D)

DAY 5: Olden.
Sitting at the head of the spectacular inner arm of the Nordfjord, the charming and peaceful village of Olden enjoys a fairytale setting. The awe-inspiring scenery around the town seems to have fallen straight from the pages of a storybook, with lush green pastures, mirror-like glassy lakes and sparkling waterfalls cascading down from high ice fields. The most remarkable sight of all is the vast and spectacular glaciers, which are some of the largest in mainland Europe. Why not join an excursion to one of the glaciers such as Jostedal, Briksdal or Kjenndalen Glacier and Lovatnet Lake? (B, L, D)

DAY 6: Ålesund.
One of Norway's most picturesque fishing ports, Ålesund enjoys a beautiful setting across several islands stretching into the sea. The town was devastated by a fire in 1904 and rebuilt over a period of three years in delightful art nouveau style architecture including towers and turrets with intriguing echoes of ancient Nordic mythology. Why not take an optional tour of the city and surrounding area? Enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views from Mount Aksla and a drive along the Borgundfjord to the bustling old trading centre of Borgund, site of the open-air Sunnmøre Museum, featuring farmhouses and boathouses from the surrounding region. (B, L, D)

DAY 7: Kirkwall, Orkney Isles.
The spectacular Orkneys consist of 70 unspoilt islands dotted off the northeast tip of Scotland. Their fertile landscapes, hidden beaches and sandstone cliffs are a haven for wildlife and are speckled with archaeological sites. This afternoon, enjoy a short stop in the picture-postcard Orkney capital of Kirkwall, with its red sandstone Magnus Cathedral, Tankerness House Museum, hand-painted 'Italian Chapel' and World War II Churchill Barrier causeways. Perhaps join one of the optional excursions to admire the neolithic village at Skara Brae or the Brogdar standing stones? (B, L, D)

DAY 8: At sea.
Relax on board your ship, enjoying views from the deck and the many facilities Boudicca has to offer. (B, L, D)

DAY 9: Liverpool, UK.
Arrive in Liverpool early this morning and disembark after breakfast. (B)
