Discover the Amalfi Coast
8 DAYS FROM £717

This holiday has departures available between: 1st May 2009 to 9th Oct 2009
2141 Jenny Parkinson Wigan 'Discover the Amalfi Coast' is a holiday that almost anyone, young or old, could enjoy. Amalfi itself is the perfect base for exploring this lovely part of Italy. The first full day of the holiday was spent getting to know the town. Amongst many delights, there was time to discover the shady Cloister of Paradise in the glorious cathedral.

Highlights of the week included the famous Amalfi Drive, the 'road of a thousand bends' where everyone (except the driver!) had an unforgettable treat. In Sorrento there was the chance to admire the dramatic cliff scenery, to wander through the streets of the old town and to sample the delicious locally made limoncello.

Positano, which is almost vertical, with pastel-coloured villas tumbling down to the sea, was another memorable destination. Apart from its natural beauty, it offers many trendy boutiques and restaurants to tempt the visitor.

An enjoyable day was spent in Capri, which must be one of the loveliest islands in the Mediterranean. We visited the Gardens of Augustus, founded by Caesar himself, where a wide variety of plants and flowers grow on terraces with enticing views of the sea.

One morning was spent in Ravello with its stunning location perched above the Amalfi coast. We explored the Villa Rufolo and saw the garden which inspired Wagner, before enjoying lunch in the town square.

An unexpected pleasure was the visit to Paestum, with its well-preserved Greek temples; the ruins stand on a green and peaceful plain. The insights of the expert local guide made the experience even more fascinating. In its own way, Paestum is as interesting as the more renowned Pompeii; also including in one of the optional excursions.

This very well organised holiday showed some of the best that Italy has to offer - beautiful landscapes, history, culture, great food and shops and friendly people.

Thank you, Archers Direct, for a delightful holiday!
