South American Highlights
16 DAYS FROM £2224

This holiday has departures available between: 7th Jul 2008 to 27th Apr 2009
524 Jenny and Mal Crook UK We had so many memorable experiences on this holiday. The itinerary was so varied and each country unique in its own way.
There were lots of early morning starts but I suppose this was unavoidable as we had so much to see in such a short time. All the hotels were central, within walking distance of the main tourist areas.

Arriving in Cusco, several members of our party began to suffer from high altitude sickness but after cups of Coca tea we all soon began to acclimatize. Our only regret was missing the trip to Machu Picchu - one of the reasons for choosing this tour - due to a nasty tummy bug! (As a precaution we suggest you bring your own antibiotics with you, available on prescription from your GP.)

One of the highlights of the tour was Lake Titicaca. First we had a tour of the amazing floating reed islands followed by a catamaran cruise across the lake on route to Bolivia. We stopped halfway to visit the sacred Island of the Sun, a truly wonderful place with breathtaking views - well worth the climb!
Next day found us bartering in the Witches market in La Paz - we really were on the top of the world!

The following day, a complete contrast, the more sophisticated city of Buenos Aires. The widest avenue in the world, the tomb of Eva Peron, the artist community of La Boca, the list was endless. In the evening we took the optional dinner and tango show - a truly unforgettable experience and one we would certainly recommend.

On to the awe inspiring Iguassu Falls - how can we begin to describe the spectacular views? First we visited the Argentinian side of the falls then crossed into Brazil to see even more breathtaking scenes. We stayed in the beautiful hotel Das Cataratas overlooking the falls, enabling us to see the falls in different moods from sunrise to sunset.

For us Rio de Janeiro was an anticlimax, Copacabana Beach was no different to any other beach in the world. We did however enjoy our trips up the Corcovado Mountain to see the Christ the Redeemer statue and the cable car ride to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain.

We took the optional extension to Buzios to relax after a hectic programme. It was well worth it. We stayed at the hotel Vila Boa Vida in our own bungalow with delightful sea views. Buzios village with beautiful beaches and a good selection of restaurants was only a short taxi ride away.

A holiday of contrasts from Incas to Gauchos, from cities to beaches -something for everyone. I can't believe how much we saw!

524 Bruce & Judy Preston BRILLIANT! A well-organised tour - the guides in each country did everything to make our trip a memorable experience.

We had read about altitude sickness and were aware of the symptoms that might arise on arriving in Cuzco. Coca tea works wonders But the best advice is to listen to what the local guides tell you about what to eat for the first couple of days and drink plenty of bottled water, whilst your body adapts to the altitude.

Each country had its own uniqueness and yes there are some very early morning starts but they are worth it. Words cannot describe Machu Picchu or the Iguassu Falls; you have to see it for yourself.

All we would say is if you are thinking about this tour is GO -YOU WILL HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME

524 Anonymous UK I cannot believe what we packed into this trip. Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil. I cannot believe what I have seen. Lima, Cusco, Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca, La Paz, Iguassu, Buenos Aires, Rio and Buzios.

I cannot believe, that, given the itinerary, NOTHING went wrong and I cannot believe how reasonable the cost was. This touring holiday program was inventive, well researched, professional and very comfortable.

My finger is poised to book our next adventure in 08 as fast as I can to ensure we get a place!! Well Done.

524 Bob Barrett UK We had a splendid in South America last April but my only complaint was that we were offered an upgrade of Hotel rooms but it was not made clear that we were located in different Hotels to the rest of the group, 20 miles away at one location, this meant that for most of the holiday we were isolated. no 1 524 Mrs C. Brown Isle of Man Well done Archers! - You've excelled yourselves once again.

Setting off on our ninth Archers holiday - this time "The South American Highlights" - we were met at Heathrow by your representative who introduced us to others in the Group.

The choice if "The south America Tour Company" for tour guides was excellent for all four countries, and our guides could not have been more helpful; friendly, and knowledgeable. Although we had six nights at 13,000/14,000 feet above sea level (two and a half miles) we all coped pretty well, and the guides and hotel staff were on hand for any problems.

It's impossible to describe the sheer wonder of the sights we experienced. The magnificent world of the Incas; Lake Titicata with the astonishing inhabited floating islands and sacred "Island of the Sun" to the breathtaking wonder of the Falls Iguassu. As for the optional Tango Show and dinner in Buenos Aires - that was delightful.

We chose to add the "Buzios Peninsula" three-day addition at the end of the tour just to relax and to chill out. For us this was the "icing on the cake".

Thank you Archers for compiling such an exciting program. We look forward to our tenth Archers holiday in Autumn.
