16 DAYS FROM £2609
Well organised tour-guides in each country did everything to make our trip a memorable experience.
We had read about altitude sickness and were aware of the symptoms that might arise on arriving in Cuzco. Coca tea works wonders BUT the best advice is LISTEN to what the local guides tell you about what to eat for the first couple of days and drink plenty of bottled water, whilst your body adapts to the altitude.
Each country had its own uniqueness and yes there are some very early morning starts BUT they are worth it.
Words cannot describe Machu Picchu or Iguassu Falls you have to see it for yourself.
All we would say is if you are thinking about this tour is GO -YOU WILL HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME
After two interesting days in Lima we reach Cusco from where we visited the Sacred Valley of the Incas, then the very next day we were there. Without exception everyone found it an extraordinarily moving experience, one that we felt could not be beaten. However, we were wrong … there was more to come.
We travelled by coach over the High Andean Plateau to Puno on Lake Titicaca, from where we went by boat to see the homes of the Uros Indians on the Reed Islands. We met now only the indigenous people, who were delightful, we came face to face with a condor.
We saw more of Lake Titicaca travelling along the south-western shore, via Juli (where the local shaman was blessing cars) into Bolivia. On Sun Island in the southern lake there was even a shaman who, after making the appropriate sacrifices, blessed us. Our venue that night was La Paz, the highest capital city in the world and certainly one of the most interesting with its Valley of the Moon and colourful Aymaran Indians.
Buenos Aires was next. The artistic quarter of the Caminito was lovely; the cemetery where Eva Peron is buried was popular; the Tango Night was amazing and we enjoyed a day at a ranch where we could go horse riding and see how the gauchos worked. The steaks were huge and the shopping was good. There was something for everyone. Then came the Iguassu Falls - what a sight they were.
Both the Argentinian falls and the Brazilian are breathtaking. The jet boat ride at the base of the Brazilian falls did more than take one's breath away - we got soaked - but it was such fun.
Then came Rio! The peak of Sugar Load was reached by cable car and we ascended Corcovado to see the statue of Christ the Redeemer on a funicular train. We could see Copacabana Beach from the summits and that was where we were staying. It can't get much better than that. Congratulations Archers Direct - it was fabulous. Thank you.
I will admit that we had reservations because of the crime there. However, we listened to the advice given by the local guides and I also visited the FCO website. We took their advice and had no problems whatsoever. Although there was a lot of poverty, the people were helpful and friendly.
Each country had its own highlights but Machu Picchu and Iguassu Falls were spectacular. The scenery on the train journey to Machu Picchu was stunning and well worth the 4.30 a.m. wake up call. The Iguassu Falls were breathtaking and I have never seen so many beautiful butterflies. The optional boat trip to the falls was exciting even though we all got wet.
The included boat trips to the floating reed islands on Lake Titicaca and to Bolivia via the Island of the Sun were excellent and just added to an already brilliant holiday.
La Paz was an amazing place that looked as if it had been formed from a crater but was in fact a lake at one time. Moon Valley really looked as if it was on the moon.
I loved Buenos Aires, which had beautiful shops and some interesting museums.
And finally to Rio de Janeiro, which had two incredible trips to Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf Mountain where the views were wonderful as well as our visit to Copacabana beach.
It was an unforgettable holiday where we made new friends and have some wonderful memories.
I cannot believe, that, given the itinerary, NOTHING went wrong and I cannot believe how reasonable the cost was. This touring holiday program was inventive, well researched, professional and very comfortable.
My finger is poised to book our next adventure in 08 as fast as I can to ensure we get a place!! Well Done.
Setting off on our ninth Archers holiday - this time "The South American Highlights" - we were met at Heathrow by your representative who introduced us to others in the Group.
The choice if "The south America Tour Company" for tour guides was excellent for all four countries, and our guides could not have been more helpful; friendly, and knowledgeable. Although we had six nights at 13,000/14,000 feet above sea level (two and a half miles) we all coped pretty well, and the guides and hotel staff were on hand for any problems.
It's impossible to describe the sheer wonder of the sights we experienced. The magnificent world of the Incas; Lake Titicata with the astonishing inhabited floating islands and sacred "Island of the Sun" to the breathtaking wonder of the Falls Iguassu. As for the optional Tango Show and dinner in Buenos Aires - that was delightful.
We chose to add the "Buzios Peninsula" three-day addition at the end of the tour just to relax and to chill out. For us this was the "icing on the cake".
Thank you Archers for compiling such an exciting program. We look forward to our tenth Archers holiday in Autumn.
Embrace the vitality of Latin America, visiting the Peruvian and Bolivian Andes, Argentina, the Iguassu Falls and Brazil's colourful cities and coast.
