Dock in Hellesylt and enjoy optional excursions to see magnificent waterfalls and the deepest lake in Europe, overlooked by the towering Mount Dallsnibba. Set on Sognefjord, the world's longest and deepest fjord, Flam Valley is an area of outstanding natural beauty, with towering peaks and cascading waterfalls. DAY 5: Stavanger.
A cosmopolitan city set on the southeast coast of Norway, Stavanger was the European Capital of Culture in 2008 and boasts charming traditional architecture, small, brightly coloured wooden houses and a bustling nightlife. Explore this interesting city at leisure, perhaps visiting Stavanger Domkirke, the oldest cathedral in Norway, or join an optional boat tour to Lyse Fjord to view the magnificent scenery. (B, L, D)
DAY 6: Oslo.
Located at the head of a vast fjord, Norway's capital has many fine buildings, museums and monuments, conveniently centred around Karl Johans Gate. These include the spectacular Royal Palace, the Edvard Munch Museum, which houses some of the artist's best works, and the excellent National Gallery. Fans of military history shouldn't miss the Resistance Museum, which traces Norway's resistance to Nazi occupation in World War II and the Armed Forces Museum, which includes a vast collection - from Viking artefacts to the tools of modern warfare. DAY 7: Warnemunde (for Berlin).
This morning, arrive at the bustling fishing village of Warnemunde. Why not travel by rail through scenic countryside to Berlin, Germany's capital?
