Peru & the Treasures of the Incas
14 DAYS FROM £1809

This holiday has departures available between: 21st Oct 2008 to 2nd Dec 2008
580 A Jivan UK I have just returned from my holiday of a lifetime to Peru.

This was my first tour experience and overall the tour was very good. I really enjoyed the train trip to Machhu Pichhu and the Orient express from Cusco to Puno. Machhu Pichhu was mesmerising. The tour has a very packed itinerary and there are a lot of early starts but I felt that the early starts were necessary to make the most of the days sightseeing.

The tour guides throughout the trip were good and very knowledgeable especially our tour guide Everlyn in Cusco and Machhu Pichhu. The local people are very friendly and the views and scenery was just breathtaking throughout the trip.

The hotel in Lima and the jungle lodge were excellent. I would recommend the extension to the Amazon jungle. The tour guide at the jungle lodge organised the sightseeing very well. We had both time for sightseeing and leisure time.

There are some faults that can be found on a trip like this but I will certainly recommend this tour to my friends. Thank you Archers.

580 Miss Waring Stoke-on-Trent It was nice of you to welcome us back from our holiday in Peru, our third time of travelling with Archers.

We had a really exhausting but adventurous holiday, really enjoyed the train journeys, the internal flights, the Amazon Basin and the good company of our fellow travellers. The altitude was hard to cope with but well worth it, when we discovered Machu Picchu and the friendliness of the local people.

580 Mrs S Wright Nr. Stockport We would like to congratulate you on a very well organised and put together tour. All our guides, without exception, were first class and contributed enormously with their local knowledge to our enjoyment.

The memories of this trip will last forever, helped of course by the many photographs taken.

An early morning start taking the Yura Highway past the snow capped volcanoes of Chachani, Ampatao and Misti en route to the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in the world (10,725 ft). Before we arrive in Chivay, the gateway to the canyon we visit the Amphitheatre of Ocolle and the hot springs of La Calera. (B, L, D)

DAY 5: Chivay - Colca Canyon - Puno.
A highlight of today's trip is a chance to see the great Andean condor that inhabits the Colca Canyon. We travel to the Cruz del Condor observation point which is a popular stop to view the condors, as they soar gracefully on the rising thermals occurring as the air warms. Our next stop is Puno, beautifully located on the famous Lake Titicaca and the greatest centre of Peruvian folklore. (B)

DAY 6: Puno. Excursion to Uros island by boat and Chimu/Chucuito visit.
Relax in the atmosphere of stunning Lake Titicaca, one of the world's highest navigable lakes. After visiting the much-photographed Uros Indian community, who live on floating reed islands in the Lake, we continue to the town of Chimu, where the locals make beds, boats, roofs and houses from 'totora' (Cyprus Escrypus). We end the day with a visit to the historical town of Chucuito where you can see the pre-Inca ruins. (B)

Cuzco was once the capital of the mighty Incan Empire and is surrounded by fascinating Inca ruins and sites. It is also home to many beautiful Spanish colonial buildings. Looking down on the town from a great height stands an impressively located Inca fortress. After strolling around the market, continue via some of the world's loveliest mountain scenery to the town of Yucay, located in the Urubamba Valley. Afternoon is free or you can join our optional excursion to the former fortified Inca town and citadel of Ollantaytambo. (B)
