Thorn Tree Safari
17 DAYS FROM £1329

614 Avee Holmes Uk I have travelled with "Archers" a lot. Kenya though was absolutely wonderful. It gave me far more than I expected.

On Safari the lodges were superb, not as basic as I had imagined. The game drives we went on were really exciting. Our guide Maurice was so helpful, willing and knowledgeable. He took me up to a Masai village which none of the rest of the group was interested in going to (why do people want to miss out on an experience like that?).

The five-day Safari was action-packed. When it was time to leave for Mombassa I wasn't ready to leave the Masai Mara so soon. However what Mombassa had in store for me was something I wasn't prepared for.

I stayed at the "Sun 'n' Sands Beach Resort in Kikambala which is about a forty-five minute journey from the city, but well worth it. The beach has the second largest Reef in the world. The sea life is spectacular. The people are warm and welcoming. The Hotel runs a community project for local people and have built a medical centre and also a school. There are many children who have no parents and need sponsors so that they can eat and be educated.

Now I'm looking forward to going back out there for five weeks in February.

Upon arrival at Nairobi Airport you will be met and taken to the Outspan Hotel for lunch. From here you transfer, with an overnight bag (your luggage will be stored for you), to the famous Treetops Lodge in the Aberdare National Park; it was here that Princess Elizabeth learned of her succession to the throne. Your afternoon is at leisure so you can acclimatise yourself on the observation deck, watching the animals as they visit the waterhole in this unique 'tree house' style accommodation. You can expect to see elephant and rhino and sometimes leopard. Overnight in Treetops Lodge. (L, D)

DAY 3: Aberdare National Park - Lake Naivasha.
After an early morning transfer to the Outspan Hotel to collect your luggage, you'll continue to the famed Great Rift Valley and Lake Naivasha, the highest lake in the valley, arriving in time for lunch. Lake Naivasha is famed for its birdlife in particular, the pink-backed pelican, which are a truly fascinating sight. You may also see a large number of hippo. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure followed by an overnight at Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge. (B, L, D)

DAY 4: Lake Naivasha - Masai Mara.
Following an early breakfast, we drive to the Masai Mara Game Reserve, arguably East Africa's best known game viewing reserve, arriving in time for lunch. This magnificent park of undulating hills and plains is home to a huge range of animals including lion, cheetah, leopard and hippo in the river Mara. You may also see elephant, giraffe and crocodile. Enjoy a late-afternoon game drive followed by dinner and overnight at the Mara Simba Lodge. (B, L, D)

DAY 5: Masai Mara.
Today you may choose to take a balloon safari over the famous Masai Mara followed by a bubbly bush breakfast (optional extra), or enjoy an early morning game drive followed by breakfast at the lodge. Safari Information

On our safaris there is a maximum of seven passengers per safari bus and the vehicle is specially designed so that you have the best possible view from each seat.
You will stay in the excellent Safari Lodges which will be as specified or similar. Occasionally it may be necessary to accommodate guests in 'Tented Camps', which offer similar standards and facilities as the Safari Lodges.
We recommend that you take comfortable clothing and sensible shoes, binoculars and a good camera with plenty of film.
It may occasionally be necessary to amend itineraries due to adverse weather conditions.
Note: You may take only one piece of small luggage on safari, as there is insufficient room in safari vehicles to carry all luggage. If you have booked a Mombasa beach stay at the end of your safari, any extra luggage must be in a locked suitcase that will be stored in Nairobi whilst you are on safari.

Visa Requirement

A visa is required for entry into Kenya currently costing £35. This may be purchased prior to departure or on arrival in Kenya.
