Holiday Itinerary

DAY 1: UK - Bergen.
Fly to Bergen where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel for one night.

DAY 2: Bergen (included sightseeing) - Flåm area.
Spread over seven sweeping hills in magnificent fjord country, Bergen is Norway's second largest city. Known as the 'Wooden City', this beautiful town bursts with history, culture and picture-postcard charm and gives a glimpse of the wonders to come. This morning, enjoy a fascinating city sightseeing tour, taking in highlights such as the waterfront Bryggen Wharf area, with its beautifully preserved and brightly painted wooden Hanseatic merchant houses, some of which date back to medieval times. This afternoon, journey through some of Norway's most awe-inspiring landscapes on a scenic drive along the mighty Hardangerfjord, viewing the splendours of its soaring pasture-rich mountains and pristine waters, before continuing to the Flåm Valley for an overnight stay. (B, D)

DAY 3: Flåm area - Geilo.
This fantastic, scenic day begins with either a morning at leisure or an optional ride aboard the Flåm Railway to enjoy extraordinary views of the Flåm Valley - an area of soaring mountains, thundering waterfalls and outstanding natural beauty. The famous Flåm Railway is one of the steepest normal-gauge railways in the world. Sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery as you pass through 20 tunnels and climb to a total of 867 metres on your hour-long journey to Myrdal station. This afternoon, head into the beautiful highlands surrounding the popular ski resort of Geilo - where you'll stay for three nights. (B, D)

DAY 4: Geilo - Hallingdal & Gol - Geilo.
Today, enjoy an included excursion to the pretty Hallingdal region and the town of Gol. Considered to be the heart of Hallingdal, Gol is a picturesque retreat dotted with centuries old, turf-roofed log-buildings, quaint stave churches and picturesque mountain dairies, idyllically set alongside modern architecture and amenities. Enjoy the fresh, mountainous landscape on today's included visit to the intricate, medieval stave church (entrance included), before heading to a glass blowing workshop where you'll see the region's famed crystal Hallinglass being crafted. This afternoon, return to Geilo where in the evening, you'll get the chance to experience an exciting optional wildlife safari - an unforgettable end to the day. (B, D)

DAY 5: Geilo.
Enjoy a day at leisure to savour the attractions of the Geilo area. A vibrant mountain village, Geilo sits amidst the Hallingskarvet Mountains and retains an air of unspoilt charm and traditional Norwegian character. The village centre is laden with cheerful shops, cafés and restaurants but is also an ideal starting point for some of the many local activities including fishing excursions, visits to local dairy farms, taking leisurely strolls in the surrounding forests, or enjoying a hike or cycle ride along the pretty mountain paths. Alternatively, join our optional excursion to explore more of this beautiful region. (B, D)

DAY 6: Geilo - Laerdal - Sognefjord cruise - Bergen.
Drive to Laerdal by way of the area's new 24 kilometre long tunnel and enjoy one of the highlights of your tour: a cruise on the Sognefjord to Gudvangen. The longest and deepest in the world, Sognefjord is an incredible and mighty fjord extending 200 kilometres inland. Breathtaking panoramas will unfold before you in an ever-changing vista of staggering beauty. Reaching Gudvangen, drive via Voss to Bergen for a two-night stay. (B, D)

DAY 7: Bergen.
Today, enjoy a full day at leisure in charming Bergen. Steeped in culture, this lively university town is a captivating blend of old and new, with modern architecture rubbing shoulders with colourful, ancient boathouses. Perhaps take a funicular railway ride to the summit of Mount Floeyen, whose peaks tower 1,000 feet above the city, to admire spellbinding views over the city and the surrounding seascape. Alternatively, enjoy a stroll amidst the labyrinth of quaint cobbled streets, crooked medieval houses, tiny porticoed shops, and bustling cafés to the Bryggen Wharf area. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the waterfront Wharf is dotted with quaint shops, animated harbourside cafés, famed for their fish and seafood delicacies, and the Hanseatic Museum, an old house restored to show how medieval merchants lived and worked. An optional coach and boat tour will also be available to the magical Barional Estate of Rosendal, with its Renaissance castle and landscaped gardens, framed by majestic glaciers, mountains and waterfalls. The castle's atmospheric halls and chambers, interesting carriage exhibition and beautiful gardens make it a truely memorable trip. (B)

DAY 8: Bergen - UK.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK. (B)
