Holiday Itinerary
DAY 1: UK - Warsaw.
Fly to Warsaw where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel for a two-night stay.
DAY 2: Warsaw. Included sightseeing.
Much of this beautiful city was destroyed during World War II, but has been lovingly restored to its former glory. The magnificent Royal Way is lined with impressive churches, palaces, art galleries and museums. The centre-piece of the old town is the Old Town Square, the entire northern side of which is occupied by the Historical Museum of Warsaw, which traces the destruction and reconstruction of the city. Our included city sightseeing tour will show you the best of the city's historic landmarks, including a wealth of fine Renaissance, Baroque and Gothic architecture. You will also visit the great Kampinoski National Park and Zelazowa Wola, birthplace of the famous pianist and composer, Chopin. House visit included. (B, D)
DAY 3: Warsaw - Poznan. Included sightseeing.
We head west to Poznan, former capital of Poland and now a centre of culture and academia, as well as being the home of Poland's oldest zoological garden. Set on the banks of the Warta River, it is a 1,000-year-old city with a wonderful mix of Gothic and Baroque architecture, including a 10th-century cathedral, the Dzialynski Palace and a fine opera house. In the Old Town Square crowds gather on the hour to watch the 16th-century town hall clock strike. Our included city sightseeing takes in many of the city's fascinating attractions. (B, D)
DAY 4: Poznan - Wroclaw. Included sightseeing.
A short drive takes us to Wroclaw on the River Odra, the capital of Lower Silesia, one of the most charming cities in Poland. It has an impressive Gothic cathedral, a beautiful town hall and an elegant opera house. The Raclawice Panorama, a vast canvas half the size of a football pitch, depicts the 1794 Battle of Raclawice. In the afternoon, our included city sightseeing tour will give you an insight into the history and culture of this fascinating city. (B, D)
DAY 5: Wroclaw - Jasna Gora - Krakow.
Our first stop is the monastery of Jasna Gora near Czestochowa, which houses the famous painting of the 'Black Madonna', venerated as the 'Queen of Poland' and the country's national symbol. In the afternoon, we visit the site of the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp, a chilling reminder of the outrages perpetrated against the Jews during World War II. Then it's on to Krakow, Poland's cultural capital, for a two-night stay. (B, D)
DAY 6: Krakow. Included sightseeing & included Tatra Mountains excursion.
The ancient capital of Poland is the jewel in its sightseeing crown. At the city's heart is the largest and one of the most perfectly preserved medieval squares in the whole of Europe, Rynek Glowny, surrounded by impressive historic buildings. The city is also Poland's cultural centre and offers an excellent range of arts and entertainment, including theatre, opera and ballet. In the morning our included sightseeing tour of ancient Krakow takes you to the historic Market Square, the Jagiellonian University, founded by Casimir III the Great in 1364 and St Mary's Church where the 14th-century kings of Poland were traditionally crowned. In the afternoon we head for the Tatra Mountains, a region of great scenic beauty, with waterfalls, lakes, caves, forests, rivers and charming little mountain towns and villages. In the evening there's a chance to dance the night away at an optional Polka party in Krakow. (B)
DAY 7: Krakow - Warsaw.
The morning is yours to enjoy more of this interesting city at your own pace. Perhaps you'd like to join our optional excursion to the nearby salt mines, a renowned UNESCO World heritage site.
