Highlights of Morocco
10 DAYS FROM £619

This holiday has departures available between: 5th Sep 2008 to 28th Nov 2008
744 Sandra Moy Hull May 2007 - This was our first time in Morocco and our first tour with Archers. We were not disappointed.

We had an excellent tour director, who was both knowledgeable and professional. She also kept us informed with amusing anecdotes throughout the ten days. Our driver and driver's assistant were very efficient too.

Our tour was very comprehensive and held many highlights as we travelled from Casablanca to Fez, through the Atlas Mountains to Erfoud, then onward to Ouarzazate and finally Marrakech before returning to Casablanca visiting many interesting cities and sites in between

Our particular favourite was Erfoud and our optional Sahara Desert trip in a local jeep. Most of us tourists chose to go on this trip. We were all kitted out in coloured scarves, adorned the Moroccan way! This proved essential as the sand seemed to penetrate everywhere while we waited for the sun to go down over the desert with our young 'Blue Men' guides for company.

We walked round the beautiful village of Ait Benhaddou. To us it looked like a giant sandcastle. We felt privileged to be shown around our guide's home. It was a step back in time. Unfortunately, the dream was shattered when we emerged from his house to find his two children chatting on their mobile phones. Progress! It made us smile.

Marrakech, another highlight was very exciting, particularly the evening visit to the bustling square. We arrived just as the stalls were being erected and in no time, just at sunset all was 'buzzing' as everyone was jostling around buying food or gaping at the snake charmers, etc.

Throughout the tour we had fantastic local guides who all spoke excellent English. We tourists were an eclectic bunch from as far away as Australia and New Zealand, Canada and North America; this made for some interesting conversations during the holiday!

At the end of the tour my husband and I stayed on for a few days in Agadir, for a well earned rest after such a memorable trip.

Although this was our first tour with Archers, we are sure it will not be our last.

744 Rosemary & David Ellis Devon A week after our return from this fabulous tour, we are still reliving the dream. We are scouring through the 800+ photos we took, trying to remember where we were when each shot was taken.

So much beautiful, diverse scenery; exquisite architecture; bustling, vibrant medina's, souks and places of entertainment; magnificent palaces and mosques; fascinating traditional crafts; wonderful modes of dress - we could go on and on.

However, the real highlight of the trip was our tour director, Graham Lye. He is the most amazing mine of information, knowledge, wit, charm, diplomacy, efficiency, humour, organization etc. Again, we could go on and on. For us, he made the holiday. Archers must be congratulating themselves on having such an asset working for them.

744 Ken & Anita Gold UK We have just returned from a trip to Morocco and wanted to express our appreciation for our tour director Graham Lye.

We have travelled with Archers several times and he was the best. His love and knowledge of Morocco was outstanding and the way this was communicated was excellent. He was humorous and very patient with our group and we believe it certainly made our trip.

Our driver and his assistant were excellent, very patient and good humoured.

744 E White Southampton I have just returned from the above holiday (Highlights of Morocco), it was excellent. Eight full packed days, with a well informed tour director filling in all the historical background from a multicultural aspect in the comfort of a month old super coach made a wonderful vacation.

A holiday in Egypt has been booked for November and I hope it will be as good a Morocco.

744 Mrs A Keeling Bedford To write in 350 words, memories of an outstanding holiday covering 2,400km in eight days is almost impossible; particularly when that journey takes us from Casablanca to the edge of the Sahara Desert in the enchanting country of Morocco.

I hope the following will give a fleeting impression of those eight remarkable days.

So to Rabat, sophisticated capital laid out by the French in the Thirties. Wide, palm-lined boulevards. The Royal Palace - Royal Guardsmen in flamboyant uniforms. Our first glimpse of buildings from the Arabian Nights.

The souks in the old city of Fes. A labyrinth of tiny streets lined on either side with shops the size of a cupboard. Thronged with people, shoulder to shoulder, and through the tide of humanity come caravans of three or four laden donkeys, men on horseback, boys pushing large handcarts…. Shy beautiful young teenagers quietly implore us to buy their bracelets, which we do. Do not imagine this a place of racket and noise - there is only the murmuring hum of many voices.

The drive south though the Middle Atlas Mountains. Lush, fertile valleys, carpets of wild flowers of such colour and beauty - we gasp with pleasure!

As we approach the Berber villages our driver, Karim, and our local guide wear their magnificent blue Berber burnous and djellabs - more gasps of admiration.

The return drive through the High Atlas. Mile upon mile of steep precipitous climbs, dizzying descents on roads narrow as ribbons.

The lovely old pink city of Marrakech, famous for spices. After our visit to the spice shop we have coffee in the main square. The Imam calls to prayer, a snake charmer trumpets his reptile out of its basket, a water seller rings a handbell……

Our driver, Marim, should also be remembered for his impeccable driving throughout the holiday. As should Abdul, his young trainee, who kept the coach so fresh and immaculate for us. They were a charming pair.

We are back now in Casablanca and sadly say goodbye. We have been a very happy international group. Many of us will return to noisy, traffic-choked towns, and it will be a joy to remember our holiday in the quiet, welcoming Islamic culture of Morocco.

744 Ms M. Knight Evesham Imagine a country of contrasts from the hustle, bustle and spicy smells of souks to the peace, quiet and openness of the Sahara Desert. Driving through a barren rocky terrain, which leads to lush oasis ravines followed by spectacular views of snow covered mountains.

Barter with locals for souvenirs; enjoy tasty freshly prepared tajines; head to the sand dunes in jeeps and ride into the sunset on camels. Enjoy mint tea whilst marvelling at locally crafted carpets and learn the healing powers of orange and aragon.

Wonder at the beauty of mosques and palaces and be prepared to be overwhelmed by the Mosque of Hassan II. Listen to excellent local guides imparting years of knowledge and history and meet local people who proudly invite you into their homes to share a welcome drink.

Highlights of Morocco - I cannot recommend this tour enough, I really don't understand why this does not rank as one of the top ten touring holidays. The brochure description does not do the holiday justice and I could go on for pages describing everything we saw and experienced. The whole tour was professionally planned and executed and the hotels, especially the Hotel Kasbah Tisimi in Erfoud, were without exception of the same high standards, albeit in very differing styles.

Our Senior Tour Director, Graham (known locally as Aziz) could not be faulted for his attention to detail and wealth of knowledge and amusing stories. Mohammed our driver never gave a moments concern and certainly knew the roads and his coach well. The driver's assistant Abdullah ensured that all travel and transfers were problem free and kept the coach immaculately clean.

Thank you Archers for a wonderful holiday, I have great memories and photographs to look back on. This holiday is going to be a hard act to follow and I look forward to booking my next one with Archers safe in the knowledge that it will be excellent.

744 Mr & Mrs Martin Barmouth This is just to say thank you for a wonderful holiday (1780 Highlights of Morocco). The journey covered all the aspects of the best of Morocco we wanted to see.

The icing on the cake was being guided by Graham, with his sense of wicked humour, admirable knowledge and ability to hold our attention for 9 nights and 10 days. His snippets of local tales, stories of his own experiences and sharp wit meant we never had a dull moment. Travelling with Graham was an experience not to be missed. We learnt a lot and laughed so much. He must be a great asset to you as a Tour Director. We covered over 1,000 miles by coach, and not at any time did we feel we were not having a great time.

Occasionally a hotel breakfast did not offer as much choice as we would have liked, but overall the meals were adequate. Graham's personal advice on what to eat and where, each time we stopped for a comfort stop or went off to explore on our own, was excellent. We tested the real Moroccan dishes, avoided the dreaded tummy bugs and drank the good local cheap beer.

Left on our own, we would have made some big mistakes. If he had any input on the planning of the tour, he did an excellent job.
