Trains

  • Bullet Train

The Shinkansen is a network of high speed railway lines in Japan operated by Japan Railways. Shinkansen literally means "New Trunk Line" and hence strictly speaking refers only to the tracks, while the trains themselves are officially referred to as "Super Express" however, this distinction is rarely made even in Japan. Our Journey through Japan holiday takes the Bullet Train from Hiroshima to Kyoto.

Holiday Extensions

  • Journey through Japan + Traditonal Japan - 2 Extra nights from £284

Why not extend your holiday with a stay in a ryokan, with traditional Japanese accommodation. Ryokans have been part of Japanese culture for centuries and were primarily built to welcome weary samurais and traders who needed rest before continuing their journey.

Staying overnight at a ryokan is very different to that of a western-style hotel. A typical ryokan features; the 'agari-kamachi' - a small area where guests take their shoes off; 'shoji'- sliding paper doors; 'tatami'- reed mat flooring; 'futon' - sleeping quilts; 'zabuton' - sitting cushions and low wooden tables.

For your ryokan stay we have selected Hotel Nanpuso (or similar), located in the beautiful and historic region of Hakone. Situated within the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, Hakone is known for being an onsen (hot spring) resort and is a very popular travel destination for international visitors and local residents of Tokyo.
