Join your cruise ship, Norwegian Jewel, at Dover. Your cruise is full board from dinner this evening until breakfast on day 13. Your ship departs at 4pm, latest embarkation is at 2pm. (D)

DAY 2: At sea.

DAY 3: Copenhagen.
Denmark's buzzing capital is more than worthy of our leisurely overnight stay. Scandinavia's largest city is packed with cobbled streets and crowned by the delightful Nyhavn Canal quayside with its colourful wooden houses, sailing ships and waterside cafes. See the world-famous Little Mermaid statue, majestic Renaissance Castle of Rosenborg and a host of other landmarks before watching the world go by from a café alongside the Nyhavn. Why not end your day with an optional evening canal cruise and visit to the twinkling Tivoli Gardens? (B, L, D)

DAY 4: Warnemunde for Berlin.
This morning arrive at the bustling fishing village of Warnemunde. From here, you may choose to travel by rail through scenic countryside to Berlin, Germany's capital. Vibrant once more since the dismantling of the Berlin Wall in 1990, this charismatic city offers a world of interesting sights and delights. Explore at your own pace today or take an optional excursion to marvel at the magnificent Brandenburg Gate, infamous Checkpoint Charlie and other landmarks, including the fascinating East Side - an art gallery which uses a section of the old Wall as its canvas. DAY 5: At sea.

DAY 6: Tallinn.
One of Europe's best preserved capitals, the walled, fairytale city of Tallinn is a treasure box of medieval architecture, half-timbered houses and picturesque lanes. Walk up cobbled Toompea Hill to see the majestic 13th century Toompea Castle, home to Estonia's parliament, as well as the grandiose onion-domed Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, a legacy of the Soviet era, and St Mary's Cathedral, before relaxing over a drink or meal in the picturesque, café-lined Town Square. DAY 7-8: St Petersburg.
Two full days to experience this glorious city, known as the 'Venice of the North'. Edging the Gulf of Finland and sprawled over numerous islands, St Petersburg is a hymn to the might of successive Russian empires. Magnets for visitors are Vasilievsky Island, with its rostral columns and majestic views over the Neva River, and the staggering Winter Palace and Hermitage Museum, the latter founded by Catherine the Great and now one of the world's greatest art museums. Other treasures include the St Peter and Paul Fortress and Church of the Spilled Blood, where Alexander II was assassinated. (B, L, D)

DAY 9: Helsinki.
The 450-year old city of Helsinki is one of Europe's most elegant capitals. Often called the 'White City of the North' for the light granite used in its buildings, its wide avenues and leafy parks give it a small-town, relaxed feel. See the ornate gold-domed Uspenski Cathedral, enjoy a drink overlooking the handsome Senate Square and marvel at the awesome Temppeliaukio Rock Church, carved from a solid rock face. (B, L, D)

DAY 10: Stockholm.
Sweden's enchanting capital is built on 14 islands and replete with age-old alleyways, pretty squares and lovely architecture. Amongst its many charming sights are its imposing City Hall with its mosaic-decorated Golden Hall, and quaint medieval old town, Gamla Stan, with its cobbled streets brimming with eateries, shops and historic monuments including the magnificent 18th century Royal Palace and Cathedral of St Nicholas.
