Russian Tours and Cruises with Archers Direct

A tour or cruise to Russia is surely the best way to discover the country that has done more to influence recent history than almost any other. An Archers Direct Russian tour offers a real insight into the country that Winston Churchill famously described as: a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.

Take The Trans Siberian Express

For a really epic tour of Russia, one that spans the entire country from Moscow to the Chinese border and beyond, the Trans Siberian Express is hard to beat. If you want to discover Russia, its cities, its history and its breathtaking scenery then this daddy (or should that be Babushka?) of all rail holidays is hard to ignore.

Trans Siberian express

The Trans Siberian Express – Cheaper Than A Bus Ride!

At 9001 Km - Moscow to Beijing – the Trans Siberian Express seems like good value for money; until, that is, you do the sums and realise that it’s actually phenomenal value for money, with the train journey alone coming in at 16.5p per Km – and that’s not counting the flights! If there’s a better value tour, we don’t know what it is!

Aside from the value for money there are some stunning things to see. What other tour can bring you across a continent to the mighty, mile-deep Lake Baikal? Naturally Archers Direct have organised a full day excursion to the planet’s largest fresh-water lake that includes a boat trip and some of the most dramatic scenery you’re ever likely to see.

Going Underground In Moscow

Your tour on the Trans Siberia Express begins and ends with the chance to experience something of the atmosphere of two of the world’s most fascinating cities. In Moscow we include a city sightseeing tour that will show you all the key attractions like Red Square, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, a visit to the Kremlin and, in keeping with our train theme, the chance to admire Stalin’s masterpiece, the Moscow underground.

From Siberia To Beijing Via The Great Wall

At the end of such an epic journey there is a fitting finale: a visit to the imposing Great Wall of China. This wonder of the world stretches some 4,000 miles across China’s northern border and its sheer scale will amaze you. Your day here will also include a visit to the Ming tombs where 13 Ming emperors are laid to rest. You still have an evening in Beijing to look forward to before a full day sightseeing tour of Beijing itself.

From the Forbidden City to Tiananmen Square this is a city of wide-open spaces and magnificent ancient wonders. In the evening after you’ve worked up an appetite you can round off your journey across half the world with an authentic Peking Duck dinner.

Twin Centre Holiday – Moscow and St Petersburg

If you’d rather get to know Russia through her cities, then a two-centre holiday taking in Moscow and St Petersburg could be just the ticket.

St Petersburg Palace

St Petersburg – ‘A Window On The West’

Surprisingly for a city that’s famous as the crucible of the Russian Revolution, St Petersburg has retained much of its Tsarist past. Travel to any European city and you’ll need to look hard for historic landmarks amid the modern buildings. If Peter the Great came back today for a look at the city he built as a ‘Window on the West,’ chances are, he’d recognise much of his handiwork.

A three-night stay in St Petersburg allows you enough time to really get a flavour for the city’s past and present. And what a past it was! The Peterhof Palace and Gardens have been restored after the devastation of WWII and returned to its full Tsarist glory. Naturally we include a guided tour of the city itself as well as admission to perhaps the world’s greatest museum, the Hermitage.

You’ll need a day to do justice to the Hermitage, as it is simply crammed with priceless works of art. As well as some of the best work of the French Impressionists you’ll be equally impressed by the scale and beauty of the interiors themselves including the famous Jordan staircase.

Moscow, the Kremlin

Welcome to Moscow

The services of a local guide are included in Moscow too and Archers Direct have planned an itinerary that ensures you’ll see all the key sights. From Red Square to St Basil’s Cathedral to the mighty Moscow Metro the city is yours to explore.

Russian Tours, Russian Cruises.

If you’d like to see Moscow and St Petersburg from a slightly different perspective how about a Russian River cruise? This is a great way to see not just these two extraordinary cities but something of the Russian heartland too.

Meet Dr Zhivago

A river cruise is a great way to unwind and few journeys are so relaxing and yet so stimulating. You’ll enjoy excellent food aboard Dr Zhivago (the cruise is on a full board basis) a sociable environment and a chance to see aspects of Russia that few get to see.
