Yangtze Cruises - China
Yangtze Cruises The Yangtze River
Stretching for thousands of miles, the Yangtze River offers cruisers vastly varying landscapes, from sheer hills and mountains to vivacious bays, wonderful oriental temples, pagodas and architecture along the vast banks.
Yangtze Cruises Climate
Such is the size of the Yangtze River, the climate varies from one area to another; from clear and brisk in some parts, to humid and misty in others. This gives the impression of many distinct destinations, a feeling enhanced by vast, authentic cities, such as Fengdu, known as The city of the Devil and its many monuments, and overwhelming natural spectacles, such as the Wu and Qutang Gorges.
Yangtze Cruises Beijing
Throughout your luxurious cruise on the Yangtze River, you will have the chance to travel ashore and venture through ancient Chinese cities and take in many unique and fabled sights. Journey to the fabulous Forbidden city and Tiananmen Square of Beijing, the largest public square in the World, then onto the enchanting Temple of Heaven, a gracious display of 15 th Century Architecture.
Yangtze Cruises Shanghai
A little further on, you will encounter the rich city of Shanghai, a thriving metropolis of Chinese culture home to some wonderful restaurants and sights, including the famous Yuyuan Garden, the enormous Jade Buddha Temple and the Children's Palace. In the evening, enjoy a live show, before getting up early in the morning to visit Shanghai Museum and later Wuhan Museum, both places of incredible significance, due to their chronicling of China from the days of the Ming Dynasty to the present.
Yangtze Cruises The Three Gorges Dam
Back aboard the ship, you will encounter a truly remarkable man made spectacle, in the late stages of development, on your voyage The Three Gorges Dam. It is one of the biggest construction projects the world has ever seen and, at around US$25 billion, one of the most expensive too. One and a half miles wide and over 600 feet high, the dam will create a reservoir hundreds of feet deep and nearly 400 miles long. The dam's 18.2 million kilowatts of capacity are expected to generate as much electricity as 18 nuclear power plants.
Yangtze Cruises An Amazing Holiday
Known as the 'Golden Waterway', the Yangtze River, or the 'Changjiang River' ('Long River'), as the Chinese call it, stretches thousands of miles across the country, finally flowing into the East China Sea. The most visually stunning section of the river is that known as the 'Sanxia' or 'Three Gorges', Chutang, Wushan and Xiling, where towering cliffs rise hundreds of feet from the river's edge. Just like its American counterpart, the Hoover Dam, the Three Gorges Dam looks set to become as popular a tourist attraction as the wonderful natural landmarks that surround it. As if there weren't enough reasons to plan a trip of a lifetime to China, now there's one more.
