Arrive in the tropical paradise that is Bali and enjoy a full day to explore your surroundings. This Indonesian island is punctured with terraced rice paddies and fringed with soft, golden sands. There are several great beaches where you can enjoy water sports, or if you’re looking for more cultural activities you may want to head for Mas Village where you can admire the handiwork of skilled artisans. Perhaps you might pay a visit to Bali’s cheekiest residents at the Ubud Monkey Forest, or explore the royal Taman Ayun Temple. The day is yours to discover the island at your own pace.
Malaysia’s capital city, Kuala Lumpur is a wonderful contrast of old and new. Towering steel skyscrapers stand side by side with elegant stone mosques and minarets, while traditional food stalls line the streets. Get your bearings in the city centre where you’ll find a great choice of food and shopping, or climb to the top of the famous Petronas Twin Towers for an unbeatable bird’s eye view of the city skyline. For your culture fix, the National Museum offers wonderful exhibits on Malaysian history and culture.
Today your journey brings you to Penang on the northwest side of the Peninsular Malaysia. Often referred to as ‘The Pearl of the Orient’, this exotic and culturally diverse island serves up palm-fringed beaches, lush jungle terrain and authentic villages. You might like to start your day at the Penang Museum, which houses an extensive collection of Southeast Asian artifacts, or perhaps you will head straight for the famous Reclining Buddha Temple, home of the fourth-largest reclining Buddha statue in the world. If you want to relax, a funicular ride at Penang Hill is a scenic way to escape the heat.
Hailed as the ‘Pearl of the Andaman Sea’, Phuket is one of Thailand’s most popular islands. Spend your day relaxing on a golden-sand beach, or you may like to hop in a tuk tuk taxi and explore your surroundings. Wat Chalong is the grandest and most revered of Phuket’s 29 Buddhist monasteries and a must-see if you’re interested in exploring the local culture. Or if you’d prefer to stay in the sun, Phang Nga Bay National Park and Khao Phra Taew National Park both offer breathtaking views of Phuket’s lush terrain and wildlife.
