Today there are many thousands of war graves and commemorative memorials for the fallen of many nations along the line of the battlefields that formed The Western Front. It is close to here that John McCrae's famous poem "In Flanders fields the poppies blow…" is believed to have been written, and in many countries on every 11th November, poppies are worn in remembrance of Armistice Day.
