Fly to Memphis, on arrival transfer to your hotel for four nights.
Discover the places that made the man on a ‘behind the scenes’ tour with our expert guide. You’ll visit Elvis’ old high school and the Presley family’s first Memphis apartment - where he used to practice his guitar in the basement - as well as the Overton Park Shell Theatre, the location for his first live, professional performance in 1954. At the Stax Museum of American Soul Music and Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum, there’s a rich rein of Memphis musical history to trace from Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin to Booker T and the MGs; and it’s then onto the legendary Sun Studios, the humble but hugely atmospheric birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll. It’s probably the most famous recording studio in the world, and here you can touch Elvis’s first microphone and hear outtakes of recording sessions from legends such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins.
Head out to Tupelo, Mississippi, the birthplace of Elvis Presley. This simple two-roomed house is where it all began, and in the adjacent museum, you can peruse rare photos and memorabilia. On your return to Memphis, check in to the Guest House at Graceland for a two-night stay. Your evening is free to make your own plans.
As his fame soared Elvis took sanctuary in the decadent and quirky interiors of his cherished Graceland mansion; today’s guided audio tour offers you a unique insight into his home life, where he socialised with friends (known as the Memphis Mafia), wrote songs, and played with his daughter. Visit the Meditation Garden to see his last resting place and there will also be chance to see Elvis' private planes.
Today head to Nashville, 'Music City USA' and enjoy a private performance and discussion with Johnny and June's only son, John Carter Cash. John Carter will entertain you with his own original music, as well as a few numbers made famous by his legendary family and even be available for photographs and autographs.
With its impressively diverse, local music-scene of clubs and honky-tonks, Tennessee’s capital city will appeal to all music fans. Studio B is Nashville's oldest surviving recording studio, where Elvis made over 200 recordings; this popular attraction is also a classroom for Nashville area students. Today’s tour continues with a visit to the famous recording studios of Music Row, the centre of the recording industry which first developed in the 1950s. Marvel at an Aladdin’s cave of music memorabilia in the Country Music Hall of Fame; Elvis’ solid gold Cadillac sits amongst a wealth of glittering costumes and rare instruments. Tonight you have reserved premiere seats for an unforgettable show at the world-famous Grand Ole Opry.
Today is your day to spend as you please. Located just beyond the city is the Hermitage, an historical mansion and peaceful retreat set in tranquil grounds; once home to American President Andrew Jackson – the ‘People’s President’. You can also visit the Ryman Auditorium, the restored home of the Grand Ole Opry from 1943-1974.
