Denver - Georgetown Loop Railroad - Glenwood Springs

Framed by dramatic vistas of the Rocky Mountains, this morning’s sightseeing tour shows you the cosmopolitan city of Denver. Afterwards, head to the beautiful Colorado Mountains and climb aboard the historic Georgetown Loop Railroad for unrivalled views of the Rockies and Clear Creek Canyon. Continue on to explore the alpine ski resort Breckenridge and then arrive in Glenwood Springs. The hot springs have been welcoming visitors for over 125 years and are the world's largest.

Glenwood Springs - Durango & Silverton Railway - Durango

Mining town Silverton is next. It owes its name to the bold statement of an early miner: "We have no gold, but silver by the ton!" Board the narrow gauge Durango & Silverton Railroad for a scenic ride through San Juan National Forest. Hugging steep canyon walls, this legendary steam train winds its way through the Rio de las Animas Canyon with impressive views of snow-capped peaks. Arrive in Durango, a town born in the Gold Rush and silver-mining era.

This morning visit Mesa Verde National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its well-preserved ancestral Pueblo Indian dwellings set into the surrounding cliffs. The largest of which, Spruce Tree House, was constructed between 1211 and 1278. Visit the museum which tells the story of the indigenous people who once thrived on this 8,000ft plateau. Later, return to Durango where the rest of the day is at leisure to explore the laid-back brewpubs, art galleries and shops of Main Street.

Durango - Taos - Sante Fe

Roll on into New Mexico arriving in the adobe town of Taos at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The Taos Pueblo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a remarkable collection of dwellings and ceremonial buildings which belong to the Native American tribe of Puebloan people. Then journey to Santa Fe, capital of New Mexico and the oldest seat of government in the United States.

Take a trolley tour of the city’s historic landmarks which showcase the town’s rich Spanish, Indian and American heritage. A highlight is the San Miguel and Loretto Chapel's 'Miracle Stairway'. This unusual helix-shaped spiral staircase was built in the late-19th century by a carpenter whose identity remains a mystery. Continue to Chimayo, at the Rancho de Chimayo, located in a century-old adobe home to sample some tasty New Mexican cuisine. Visit the Santuario de Chimayo and learn about the miraculous healing powers that attract pilgrims each year. Later, return to Sante Fe where the rest of the day is at leisure.

Enjoy a stop at the Royal Gorge Bridge en route to Colorado Springs. Walk across the North America's highest suspension bridge and marvel at the rock walls that plunge more than 1,000ft to the Arkansas River.

This morning, take the Pikes Peak Cog Railway to the 14,110ft summit, where Katharine Lee Bates was inspired to write ‘America the Beautiful’. Explore Garden of the Gods with its impressive towering sandstone rock formations set against a classic Colorado view of striking blue skies and the snow-capped Pikes Peak. This evening enjoy a special farewell dinner hosted by your tour director.
