Whale and dolphin watching

Today's excursion offers an unforgettable dolphin and whale watching experience. Marine biologists will map the waters for a chance to see these amazing mammals up close, and you may have the chance to swim with dolphins should the opportunity arise. This is a nature lovers dream come true as the area comes to life. It is possible that a host of different whales and dolphins may be spotted so keep a look out for the likes of the bottlenose dolphin, Atlantic spotted dolphin, sperm whale, Byrd's whale and also the host of marine birds.

During your week here there are many optional excursions and activities you can fill your days with. These can be booked once you're settled in and the great thing is, it's up to you what you do. Whether you want to fit in as much as possible - you can pretty much see the whole island - or you can simply take it as it comes and relax in your hotel, enjoy the pleasing surroundings taking each day as it comes, perhaps just heading out in the evening for dinner and a stroll around the town.

Cable car & Best of Madeira excursion

A trip on the popular Monte cable car is included in your holiday and is part of a half day excursion to Monte and Nun's Valley. Boarding the cable car in Funchal, take in the panoramic views of this beautiful town and surrounding countryside as you head inland approximately 15-20 minutes, to Monte. Here your half day tour begins with a visit to Madeira's famous view point Eira do Serrado with its magnificent views over Crater Village, Curral da Freiras and stunning Nun's Valley, a huge caldron of a valley and the deepest on the island. As a unique alternative means of transport, why not try the traditional Toboggan ride for part of the return journey? This is optional and a supplement applies.

5 - 6

Two days for you to spend at Leisure. Funchal, lying at the end of a beautiful bay and rising up the hillside rather impressively in tiers, has plenty to keep you occupied. For great views and to get your bearings, you can't do much better than visiting Parque de Santa Catarina which overlooks the harbour and the whole town. Alternatively, why not spend some time exploring the main Jacaranda-lined avenue and the surrounding tiny cobbled streets which are filled with typical embroidery shops, wine lodges, restaurants, cafés and bars. Other notable places to go include the Museum of Sacred Art, the Quinta Magnolia, the cathedral and the flower and fruit markets.

Your last full day is yours to fill as you please. Perhaps visit Santa Cruz, one of the oldest towns on the island, set against a mountainous backdrop on the eastern shore. Surrounded by rich farmland, lush flora and beautifully manicured gardens, this idyllic resort overlooks a picturesque harbour and several small beaches, while the tranquil town centre has a good selection of shops and restaurants to choose from.
