Take the New England Thruway via New Haven, home of Yale University and New London, then into the tiny state of Rhode Island to Newport, home of the world-famous jazz festival and millionaire mansions. Spend time exploring The Breakers, the magnificent Italian palazzo of business magnate and philanthropist Cornelius Vanderbilt. Head north into Massachusetts to the historic seaside port of Plymouth, where the Pilgrim Fathers landed in the Mayflower in 1620.
Begin the day with a visit to Plimoth Plantation, a living history museum of 17th century Plymouth where you'll meet past residents of the colony, engagingly portrayed by costumed interpreters. You can take an optional whale-watching expedition in the afternoon, with commentary by a local marine biologist. Afterwards, visit the historic town of Plymouth and Plymouth Rock, the spot where the Pilgrims landed. Your evening is free.
Round off your visit to Plymouth with a morning trip to the Plimoth Grist Mill, a working reconstruction of the original mill built by the Pilgrims in 1636 and located on the original site in Plymouth Colony. Later head for Boston, the 'Cradle of American Liberty', where the rest of your day is free.
Get up close to the interesting and impressive historical landmarks of Boston on a guided sightseeing tour, including Beacon Hill, the Old North Church, Boston Common and the Public Gardens. Then explore Faneuil Hall before travelling to the elegant ocean-front village of Ogunquit, a haven for writers and artists. In the evening, why not sample the delicious local fare on an optional lobster bake excursion?
Journey through New England’s autumnal embrace as you head through forests and valleys ablaze with orange, red and gold leaves to Lake Winnipesaukee; one of the region's largest and most beautiful stretches of water. Enjoy a cruise across this island-studded lake aboard the historic MS Mount Washington to the resort of Wolfeboro. Overnight is in North Conway, with a backdrop of over 700,000 acres of protected White Mountain National Forest.
Travel through glorious rolling countryside and continue across New Hampshire into Vermont, where the birch, oak and maple leaves form a brilliant kaleidoscope of colour. After a stop in Montpelier, there is a visit to a nearby maple syrup farm. The rest of the evening is at leisure.
Arrive at the shores of Lake Champlain for a scenic ferry-crossing into the state of New York. Drive through the pristine and virgin foothills of the Adirondack Mountains to reach the village of Lake Placid. Your day is then free to enjoy a pleasant stroll around Mirror Lake, or visit the Olympic Skating Centre.
This morning is at leisure, so why not indulge in some souvenir shopping on Main Street? An orientation tour shows off Saratoga's charming downtown with its Victorian buildings and one-of-a-kind boutiques.
Enjoy a short stop in Albany, the State Capital of New York for an orientation tour. Later, continue to the airport for your flight to the UK, or extend your stay in New York.

Great Tour Manager (Doris Walker) and tour good value. Only one optional extra I thought was poor value was the Lobster meal at Ogonuquit. At $50 per person I thought it too expensive, otherwise we were pleased.
The Tour Director & the driver were excellent. We were given all the information that we needed along the way by our Tour Director. She was friendly and very efficient. The tour itself, whilst very intense, was excellent. We arrived in New Hampshire on just the right day in order to ess the foliage at its best. This was the highlight of the tour. There were many "wow" factors on the tour:- 1. Kankamagus highway for the scenery 2. Lake Placid cruise 3. Lobster bake 4. Lake Winnipesaukee cruise 5. Adirondack Mountains However, as in all things, there were a few downsides:- 1. Late flight from Heathrow meant we did not arrive at the hotel in New York until 23:00 hrs. Too late to have a meal or even take a walk around the city. British Airways have many daily flights, some around noon. This would give more time to explore New York. 2. For the price we paid for the holiday, breakfast should be included at ALL hotels. 3. The 3 hour locally guided tour of Boston was a complete waste of time. 4. Not all hotels were within "easy walking distance" of restaurants, particularly for those who are partially disabled and cannot walk all that far However, having said that, we survived the holiday and will no doubt use Archers again in the future
Unfortunately the Tour Director was poorly briefed on the tour and seemed disorganised and her information and delivery disjointed. The hotel positioning was awful, sometimes without on site catering and situated miles from any restaurants and bars. Also we were not informed of this until just arriving at the hotel so having no chance to buy food or drink at a rest stop.
Fantastic holiday, tour director and driver excellent
Loved the New England hotels and tours except having no alternative in a soaking wet Ogonquin but to traipse round for 3 hours getting wetter.
Interesting tour but our guide, although helpful, talked too much, continually digressed from the point and was not always clear in his instructions.
We caught the foliage just right and it is a sight to see. I don't like the arrangement of not being met by an Archers rep at the airport or not being dropped off after the holidays. Shuttles may be easy for the tour company but the are quite frankly a bind to the traveller
There's no need to shop around. Find a cheaper like-for-like tour from another company, and we’ll not only match their price but also give you a £50 discount when you book with us.
They have in-depth knowledge of the places you’ll visit and will be on hand every step of the way with commentary entirely in English. 96% of customers rate them 'excellent' or 'good'.
