In Jogyakarta visit the Borobudur Temple, one of the Buddhist world’s most iconic landmarks, before taking a train ride through the volcano-dotted landscapes en route to Malang. Take a pony ride (or walk if you’d prefer) to the Mount Bromo volcanic crater, behold the Tamak Spring and its ceremonial bathing pools and learn how to build a Balinese house. This is a truly immersive journey into Indonesian culture.

On arrival transfer to your hotel for one night.
This morning transfer to Jakarta airport for the flight to Jogyakarta. On arrival you will be met by your guide. Continue to Magelang and a visit to Candirejo Village. The village is surrounded by plantations and lush scenery. Getting into the village is by horse drawn cart or there are bicycles to ride to or from the village. Later there is a lesson in Indonesian Gamelan Music. Afterwards you will drive back down to Jogyakarta for your overnight stay.
Early morning drive to experience the sunrise on what must be a highlight of the tour. Today's visit takes in one of the Buddhist world's most iconic landmarks, the Borobudur Temple. Hidden by the jungle and volcanic landscape until 1814, this huge temple was rediscovered and excavated. It is adorned with over 500 intricately carved Buddha statues, 100 carved gargoyle spouts and over 1,000 picturesque reliefs. Later head to Jogyakarta with short stops at the Sultan Palace and Tamansari (water castle) built in 1758. This afternoon after a short rest see the Prambanan Temple with its jagged temples featuring three main inner shrines dedicated to the Hindu trinity: Brahma, Wisnu and Siwa
Early this morning travel through the volcano dotted terrain by train (approximately 4 hours) to Malang City. On arrival transfer to your hotel in Malang, ready for the early start the next day.
To be able to see the most stunning sunrise over one of Indonesia's most amazing landscapes, this morning you will depart at 1am to drive to Penanjakan. Continue down to the Bromo caldera for a pony ride across the sandy bluffs and past the steep slopes of Mount Tengger. Then, climb the 245 steps to the rim of the Mount Bromo volcanic crater to marvel at the stunning site. Stop for breakfast en route whilst transferring to Surabaya airport for your flight to Denpasar. On arrival in Denpasar transfer to your hotel.
Ubud, the cultural centre of Bali surrounded by rice fields, small villages, ancient temples, is a magnet for artists, musicians and performers. This morning visit the Tampak Spring or Holy Spring Temple. The bathing pools are still used by Balanese people for purification ceremonies. Continue to the village of Kintamani for amazing views of Mount Batur (weather permitting) an active volcano on the shores of Lake Batur. Scan across the horizon from left to right and observe that Kintamani sits on the caldera rim of an enormous volcano and Mount Batur, directly in front, is merely a small mountain created by thousands of years of volcanic activity. A buffet lunch is served at a local restaurant overlooking the volcano.
Enjoy a morning trek (approximately 2 hours) through lush greenery not far from the village centre offering views of Gunung Agung and glimpses of nearby villages and rice fields. From the Gunung Temple follow the concrete path north and up to the ridge between the two rivers that flow nearby. Enjoy the peaceful scenery through the tall green grasses. There is a visit to a Balinese house compound to learn about the Balinese rules to build houses and compounds. After the walk there will be refreshments served in a restaurant overlooking the rice fields. This afternoon visit the famous Ubud Monkey Forest which is home to many different species of trees, interesting temples and crab eating Macaque Monkeys.
Travel through the northwest of Bali today. Experience the market of Candi Kuning and wonder at the variety and colours of the fruit and flowers. Continue through Ulun Danu and onto Jatiluwih rice terraces designated a UNESCO Cultural Landscape. Lunch is taken here. After a day of amazing scenery arrive at the beach side of Nusa Dua.
Enjoy a day at leisure at the beach or relaxing at your resort hotel.
Today travel to the southern tip of Bali to Uluwatu. The temple here is perched 70 metres above sea level on a cliff top. Witness a traditional display of Kecak dance where a circle of up to a hundred male performers sway and chant to hypnotic music. Dinner will be taken in a restaurant on the crescent shaped Jimbaran Bay.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK or extend your stay in Nusa Dua.
Luggage will be waiting for you in Malang so please pack a small bag for the journey as bags will be collected the night before to travel by road.
