Meet your fellow travelling companions at this morning's Welcome Orientation. Travel through Palmer in the Matanuska Valley, there cabbages can grow to an amazing 70lbs in the 24 hour daylight. Continue over Tahneta Pass for amazing vistas of Matanuska and Worthington Glaciers. Stop at Bridal Veil Falls before arriving in the seaside port of Valdez often referred to as the 'Switzerland of the Alaska'.
This morning, board a sightseeing cruise on Prince William Sound and along the 3 mile face of Columbia Glacier. Keep a keen eye out for wildlife including seals, sea otters, birds and even whales. Later, return to Valdez and see the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Terminal, where supertankers are loaded with crude oil from Prudhoe Bay.
Enjoy some jaw dropping scenery all the way along Richardson Highway. Stop at Delta Junction, a living history homestead with a museum, original roadhouse and farm animals. Then, head west on the Alaska Highway to Fairbanks, Alaska's second biggest city.
Today, visit Gold Dredge#8 and ride the narrow gauge railroad. Then there is the opportunity to pan for Gold. Later, board the sternwheeler Discovery for a cruise on the Chena and Tanana Rivers, with a stop at the Chena Indian Village to learn about Athasbascan Native culture. There will be the chance to meet Iditarod mushers and their fames dog teams to learn about breeding, training and the big sled race held annually over 1,049 miles across Alaska. This evening enjoy a special Alaska salmon bake.
This morning, board the world famous Alaska Railroad for a journey through untamed wilderness. The end of the line is Denali National Park, where North America's highest peak Mount Denali (formerly Mount Whitney) 20,320 ft majestically dominates the park's 6 million acres. The afternoon is free to enjoy the scenery and the park's trails. This evening, enjoy dinner at the Murie Sceince & Learning Centre followed by an exclusive presentation on Denali National Park by a local Naturalist.
The morning is free so why not join an optional excursion that includes a float trip down the Nenana River and a helicopter ride over the park. Later, dress comfortably for a Wilderness Expedition into Denali National Park to see out grizzly bear, caribou, moose and other local wildlife.
Continue exploring Denali National Park heading south towards Anchorage. There is a stop along the way at Happy Trail Kennels, home of four time Iditarod Champion Martin Buser and his dogs. There will be a demonstration of mushing, complete with a mock Iditarod checkpoint and get a chance to play with the sled dogs. On arrival in Anchorage, enjoy a tour of the Alaska Native Heritage Centre. Later the Tour Director hosts a special farewell dinner. Over dessert enjoy a storytelling presentation.
Witness one of the world's most scenic drives following the shores of Turnagain Arm. Arrive Seward and board a sightseeing cruise of Kenai Fjords National Park and the opportunity to see glaciers calving into the sea, orcas, humpback whales, see otters and more.
