From riding the metro in Moscow and painting Matroyshka dolls in Sergiev Posad, to following in the footsteps of Tchaikovsky in Klin, prepare for a journey of cultural discovery on this interactive city adventure.
Fly to Moscow where you will be transferred to your hotel for the evening.
Discover the Russian capital of Moscow on the included sightseeing tour, including the Kremlin, a fortified complex in the heart of of the city, including St Basil's Basilica and the Red Square as well as the Armoury boasting it's fine art treasures. As part of this tour you'll also take a trip on the Moscow underground to admire some of the historical ornate stations.
Take part in the included excursion to Sergiev Posad. Here, you will visit St Sergius Monastery. Round up the day with a visit to the Matryoshka museum and attend a masterclass to learn about the art of painting nesting dolls.
Depart Moscow this morning and head northwest to towards Tver. Stop on route in the scenic town of Klin, home of Russia’s famous museum of Christmas toys. Enjoy a workshop in glass decoration production before moving on to the nearby Tchaikovsky House museum which was the legendary composer’s country home. You have the opportunity to browse personal artefacts including photographs and sheet music at the museum before continuing your journey to your hotel in Tver.
After breakfast leave for the nearby town of Torzhok, best known for its gold-wire embroidery. See intricate handiwork displays at the Goldwork Embroidery Museum, before moving on to the Valday Iversky Monastery. Later, continue your journey to Novgorod where you will enjoy an authentic Russian dinner at a local restaurant to end the day.
Get to know Novgorod on the included city tour, featuring a visit to the Kremlin and St. Sophia's Church. See traditional izbas (village houses), churches and chapels at the Vitoslavlitsky wooden architecture museum and visit St George's Cathedral, dating back to 1119.
Depart Novgorod today and travel to the port city of St. Petersburg. On arrival, get a first impression of this magnificent city on the orientation drive, taking in all of the main sights.
Enjoy another full day in St Petersburg with a guided sightseeing tour. Today's excursions includes the sprawling Peter and Paul Fortress, which houses the City History Museum, the historic Mint building and the Peter and Paul cathedral. Take some time to admire the panoramic views from the fortress walls, or perhaps you will join our optional excursion to the Hermitage Museum.
Your last day in St Petersburg is free for you to enjoy at your own pace. Wander the city and take a canal cruise or you may want to choose between our optional excursions to Catherine Palace & the Fabergé Museum, or to a Vodka tasting session with dinner at the Vodka Rooms.
Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
