Day 1

UK - Venice area

Fly to Venice and on arrival, meet your tour representative and transfer to your hotel, your base for the next two nights. After check-in, spend the remainder of the day at leisure in this alluring city. As part of your introduction, enjoy a welcome 'aperitivo' drink— a time-honoured Venice ritual — at a typical Venetian bar.

Day 2

Venice area

After breakfast, take a guided walking tour of Venice to witness the city's most famous sights. See magnificent St Mark's Square, St Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace, and swoon over the enclosed Bridge of Sighs, named after the sighs of the prisoners who were once led across it from the palace to imprisonment or death. Learn about Venice's colourful history as you stroll, and discover other sights such as the Rialto Bridge, historic palazzos and churches. Then, enjoy the rest of the day to explore independently. Perhaps browse the shops for souvenirs or delve into Venice's fascinating galleries and museums.

Day 3

Venice - Florence

Enjoy free time in the morning. Later, ride a high-speed Italo or Freccia train to Florence. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 4

Florence

Begin with a morning walking tour of Florence's main attractions with an expert guide. Marvel at the L-shaped Piazza della Signoria, with its copy of Michelangelo's statue of David; and see the Duomo with its dome by Brunelleschi, as well as sights such as the Ponte Vecchio covered bridge. As you drink in the beauty around you, learn how Florence became the hub of the Renaissance in the 14th and 15th centuries under the Medici family, who became patrons of the great artists of the day, such as Michelangelo and Botticelli. Afterwards, enjoy free time to stroll and sightsee as you please, perhaps shopping at the boutiques, relaxing at the restaurants or visiting Florence's palazzos, churches and art museums.

Day 5

Florence - Rome

Depart Florence by Italo or Freccia train this morning and travel to Rome. Known as the Eternal City, Italy's capital has been the centre of Christianity for over 2,000 years and serves up a veritable feast of monuments, churches, fountains and iconic buildings. On arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy time at leisure to settle in and sample Rome's bustling atmosphere, world-class cuisine and fashionable shopping.

Day 6

Rome

Enjoy a fantastic introduction to Rome on a sightseeing tour around the city's highlights. Wonder at the mighty Colosseum, the scene of bloody gladiator battles and wild animal fights in the 1st century AD; and witness the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and Forum, whose ruins mark out what was once the social, political and commercial heart of ancient Rome. Other must-sees include the splendid St Peter's Basilica and the Vatican, home to the sublime Sistine Chapel ceiling frescoes of Michelangelo. Afterwards, have more free time to explore as you wish, and soak up the city's fabled 'la dolca vita'.

Rome - UK

Today, transfer to Rome airport to catch your return flight to the UK.
