Fly to Los Angeles where you will transfer to your hotel for two nights.
Always surprising, usually sunny, and never dull: begin your day with a sightseeing tour of LA’s hotspots. Head to Hollywood to see the iconic tiled stars of the Hollywood Walk of Fame; the TCL Chinese Theatre; Dolby Theatre; fashionable Rodeo Drive and its luxury shops in Beverley Hills; and the legendary Sunset Strip. You can also visit the Hollywood History Museum, located in the old Max Factor Building.
Today, travel to the desert oasis of Palm Springs before continuing to Scottsdale, Arizona. This afternoon, head to the mountain ringed desert resort of Scottsdale. Tonight, why not join an optional excursion to one of Arizona's Legendary Cowboy Steakhouses, where legend goes it was once a hideout for cattle rustlers?
This morning begins with a Phoenix sightseeing tour, including downtown and Old Town Scottsdale where Western storefronts create an aura of the past. Afterwards, enjoy free time to explore a taste of the Old West with restaurants, shopping, and Western bars. With wooden beams, wagon wheels and cowboy hats abundant, you will feel like you have travelled back in time to the era of outlaws and saloons.
First stop today is a visit to Sedona, a centre for Southwestern and New Age arts. Climb through Oak Creek Canyon with its weather-sculpted formations of dramatic, colour-tinted crags. Then pass by the San Francisco Mountains and fragrant pine forests to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Take an optional helicopter 'flightseeing' excursion for incomparable views of its flame-coloured walls plunging 6,000 ft into the Colorado River. Stay overnight in Williams, a picturesque mountain town with Route 66 as the main street.
Cross the old Mojave gold-strike country and spot traces of century-old ghost towns in this eerie desert setting. Look out for the iconic Joshua trees, a species of the lily family that grows to 40 ft high and can live for more than 300 years. Then on to Las Vegas: the inimitable desert city of feverish gambling, neon lights and glamorous shows.
The day is free for exploring the 'Strip' with its varied casinos and resorts, shopping plazas and amusement sites.
Depart the neon glare of Las Vegas to continue across Nevada’s desert landscape and into California. Traverse the arid and surreal beauty of the Mojave Desert and stay overnight in Tulare in the central San Joaquin Valley.
Enter Yosemite National Park: a wonderland of spectacular lakes, lush forests and giant granite domes, pinnacles and mountains rising more than 4,000 ft above the valley floor. Afterwards, drive onto Modesto.
Continue to San Francisco, crossing one of the city's splendid bridges offering vistas of its skyline and attractive harbour. Get up close to the famous Golden Gate Bridge, and wander the lively port area of Fisherman's Wharf and Nob Hill.
This morning, visit the notorious former prison of Alcatraz, which housed famous gangsters such as Al Capone, 'Machine Gun' Kelly and Robert 'The Birdman' Stroud. The afternoon is free for you to explore more of this fascinating city. The Alcatraz Prison visit has a value of $35.50 which is included in the price.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK, or extend your stay in San Francisco or Hawaii.
Important: For 2018 the visit to Alcatraz will not be an included item.

Excellent tour all that I wanted and more. Everyday there was at least one wow.
An excellent tour, and a holiday of 'contrasts' - exactly as outlined on the Archers website.
One of the days of our tour happened to fall on Columbus Day which was a holiday in the USA. Our visit that day was to the state building in Phoenix which was obviously shut. I was not impressed that the company had arranged for us to visit state building on a day when they are closed. Whilst in Scottsdale we went on an optional tour to a cowboy's steak meal. The meal was of a very poor standard as was certainly not worth the money we had paid for it. Some of the comfort stops were a little repetitive, e.g. Fruit barns and supermarkets. A stop at a winery would have been good considering we were in California. We really enjoyed the holiday though it was very tiring. In our ignorance we didn't realise the amount of miles we would be covering. However we saw some wonderful sights, The Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Yosemite and San Francisco. Also saw other places where we wished we could have stayed longer - Palm, Springs, Sedona and Williams. we will remember the holiday for a long time.
If we decided to do a tour again we will judge the distances between stops next time.
Tour director enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Comfortable coach, with safe driver. Intinery on the whole well planned, but with all tours of this type you only have a limited amount of time in each area. Adequate time for restroom/meal breaks whilst travelling. Good choice of optional excursions. Nice hotels, although the LA Downtown wasn't in a good location for restaurants in the evening.
We also enjoyed this holiday although we could have done with more information from the tour director about the towns we went to and the areas we passed through
What you see on this trip is amazing, from cities to mountains and canyons, every day is so different. The downside is getting up at 6 am each morning which can be very tiring and especially as you get no sleep in the cheap hotels that Archer's use. Based on this experience I would look at other companies to see which hotels they use, I certainly would never use Archers (Cosmos) ever again.
Quite good although rushed in some places. A couple of the hotels were not up to the standard we thought they would be. The hotel in Mamouth Lakes did not have any choice of places to eat in the evening as it was out of season for this hotel.
Really good value for money, DeAnna Roe was so knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The trip was better than I thought, packed full of great days. Thanks DeAnna.
Our Tour Manager, Deanna was brilliant. The tour was good value for money. The places of interest were well chosen. The only suggestion I have personally, is to give thanks to God for His creation and I can fulfill that by going to Mass Sundays. It is a suggestion to save me going to the reception to find the church nearby. It makes life easier. Deanna channelled me to the right direction and I truly grateful. Hope to join your tour for the East of US or Canada! God bless!
