Fly to Los Angeles where you will transfer to your hotel for two nights.
Begin the day with a sightseeing tour of the world's 'Capital of Glamour', including a drive through Hollywood. The rest of the day is yours to explore the attractions of this famous city. Visit the cultural sights of Los Angeles such as Olvera Street, or the heart of the original Spanish Mission.
Journey to the desert oasis of Palm Springs, just 120 miles east of Los Angeles. Ever since Hollywood stars first came here in the 1930's laying claim to ranch-style estates and holding up in elite hotels, the clean dry air and sunshine have made Palm Springs irresistible.
Weave your way through cacti-covered desert to Old Town Scottsdale, with its Old West vibe of wooden beams, wagon wheels and western storefronts. Afterwards, enjoy free time to explore its interesting boutiques and galleries of Native American art.
First stop today is a visit to Sedona, a centre for Southwestern and New Age arts. Climb through Oak Creek Canyon with its weather-sculpted formations of dramatic, colour-tinted crags. Then pass by the San Francisco Mountains and fragrant pine forests to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Take an optional helicopter 'flightseeing' excursion for incomparable views of its flame-coloured walls plunging 6,000 ft into the Colorado River. Stay overnight in Williams, a picturesque mountain town with Route 66 as the main street.
Cross the old Mojave gold-strike country, that still has traces of century-old ghost towns set in the natural desert beauty. Look out for Joshua trees, a species of the lily family that grows to 40 ft high and can live for more than 300 years. Today's destination is the man-made phenomenon in the Nevada desert that is Las Vegas, a fantastic city of feverish gambling, neon lights and glamorous shows.
The day is free for exploring the 'Strip' with its varied casinos and resorts, shopping plazas and amusement sites.
Departing the neon lights of Las Vegas, we continue across the desert landscape of Nevada before crossing into California. See the vast Mojave Desert, which covers one-fifth of California. Pass through the agricultural land and overnight in Tulare in the central San Joaquin Valley.
Enter Yosemite National Park: a wonderland of spectacular lakes, lush forests and giant granite domes, pinnacles and mountains rising more than 4,000 ft above the valley floor. Afterwards, drive onto Modesto.
This morning, we continue west to the “Golden Gate City” of San Francisco, famous for its cable cars. Lunch in the pristine waterfront community of Sausalito. Free time to explore this quaint, Mediterranean-style village’s shops, galleries, and breathtaking views. Afterward, included sightseeing takes in the spectacular Golden Gate Bridge.
Enjoy a day at leisure. Why not visit the notorious former prison of Alcatraz, which housed famous gangsters such as Al Capone, 'Machine Gun' Kelly and Robert 'The Birdman' Stroud?
Transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK, or extend your stay in San Francisco or Hawaii.
Important: For 2018 the visit to Alcatraz will not be an included item.
Please note that there are 4 breakfasts for 2017 departures and 2 for 2018 departures due to a hotel change in Scottsdale

Excellent tour all that I wanted and more. Everyday there was at least one wow.
An excellent tour, and a holiday of 'contrasts' - exactly as outlined on the Archers website.
One of the days of our tour happened to fall on Columbus Day which was a holiday in the USA. Our visit that day was to the state building in Phoenix which was obviously shut. I was not impressed that the company had arranged for us to visit state building on a day when they are closed. Whilst in Scottsdale we went on an optional tour to a cowboy's steak meal. The meal was of a very poor standard as was certainly not worth the money we had paid for it. Some of the comfort stops were a little repetitive, e.g. Fruit barns and supermarkets. A stop at a winery would have been good considering we were in California. We really enjoyed the holiday though it was very tiring. In our ignorance we didn't realise the amount of miles we would be covering. However we saw some wonderful sights, The Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Yosemite and San Francisco. Also saw other places where we wished we could have stayed longer - Palm, Springs, Sedona and Williams. we will remember the holiday for a long time.
If we decided to do a tour again we will judge the distances between stops next time.
Tour director enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Comfortable coach, with safe driver. Intinery on the whole well planned, but with all tours of this type you only have a limited amount of time in each area. Adequate time for restroom/meal breaks whilst travelling. Good choice of optional excursions. Nice hotels, although the LA Downtown wasn't in a good location for restaurants in the evening.
We also enjoyed this holiday although we could have done with more information from the tour director about the towns we went to and the areas we passed through
What you see on this trip is amazing, from cities to mountains and canyons, every day is so different. The downside is getting up at 6 am each morning which can be very tiring and especially as you get no sleep in the cheap hotels that Archer's use. Based on this experience I would look at other companies to see which hotels they use, I certainly would never use Archers (Cosmos) ever again.
Quite good although rushed in some places. A couple of the hotels were not up to the standard we thought they would be. The hotel in Mamouth Lakes did not have any choice of places to eat in the evening as it was out of season for this hotel.
Really good value for money, DeAnna Roe was so knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The trip was better than I thought, packed full of great days. Thanks DeAnna.
Our Tour Manager, Deanna was brilliant. The tour was good value for money. The places of interest were well chosen. The only suggestion I have personally, is to give thanks to God for His creation and I can fulfill that by going to Mass Sundays. It is a suggestion to save me going to the reception to find the church nearby. It makes life easier. Deanna channelled me to the right direction and I truly grateful. Hope to join your tour for the East of US or Canada! God bless!
